Screen flickering in GameEx, especially in slideshow

Hello,

So I finally fixed 2 other problems : advmame is now working and the screensaver is also working : starts now games, but I have to say that it was a mess. I was only able to get it working via directly editing the gameex.ini file...

Last thing is open : When I start gameex and I am in it, the screen flickers randomly. When I look at pictures its getting horrible : a big black flicker is comming over the whole screen. When I go to the next picture. The flicker is away just for 0,5 second and when the next picture is there, again a very big black flicker on the screen. I also recognized that when I am using the Acidbrain theme and I jump over to Jukebox, Gameex crashes completely and he gives me an direct x error. This is why I am using the default 640*480 Theme. I installed the original drivers from nvidia (riva TNT2 model 64 card) and otherwise I do not have these problems...

Has someone an idea for me ?

Bye,

Ränz

You could try a different theme. Some themes seem to be more problematic than others. If using a different theme fixes the problem, then we would at least know where to start.

Hi,

Problem solved : it was the graphics card. Now I put in a Geforce 6200 with 512 MB RAM and this flickering is away, finally !! :-) Now I have 2 points left :

1. When I play a vertical game and activate "Use Breezel", the game wont start. If I deactivate it, everything is fine. This problem was already discussed here, but there was no real solution. Has somethign changed now ?

2. The problem with the ACidbrain theme still exists : When I use this theme, everythign woks fine, only when I start "Jukebox". The system will hang, and then GameEx crashes with a Direct 3d error. Ialready have the actual Directx version, and the newest drivers from nvidia. I also had this problem before with my other graphic card.

Anyway, how do I know which theme can I use ?

You don't. You have to keep trying until you get one that fits or works well. Some will work well, other may not based on your PC, the monitor... etc.. etc..

Each theme also has it's own *.ini file that might have some settings turned on and off. You can look through those as well.

There is a lot of trial and error with the Themes. You just have to keep trying them till you are happy with one. I use Future Retro, but it's a version 2 theme. I like the layout, the colors are dull, but it matches the look of my cabinet.

Of course, as you get better with GameEx, you can design your own.
