Hyperspin FE

Hi All,

Just want to see what everyone thought about that new Hyperspin FE?

Yer it looks good but I dont think its as powerfull as GAMEEX and its a little tricky to setup cetain emus.

what do you guys think?

It does seem to have some very nice overlay effects but I love my GameEx setup too much to switch

I would say HYPERSPIN is best for MAME only but GAMEEX slaps it up everywhere else?

I think they serve two completley diffrent purposes. Gameex is a media centre where HS is geared more for a arcade interface. I dont think the learning curve is too steep considering all FE's have thier ins and outs.

I don't think there's anything wrong with asking how to configure a program with GameEx even when that program reproduces some of the same features of GameEx. I wouldn't talk about configuring HS here just because that sort of detail is better left to their own forum.

If I were going to configure MAME to run via HS through GameEx, I would set it up as an Application. Then when you select MAME it would hide GameEx and launch HS so you could interact with it as normal.

On a side note, although HS looks awesome, I notice that some of the game pages are a bit inconsistent. Sometimes the spinner/game selector shows on the right and sometimes it doesn't. I'm sure this is an artifact of different people creating what they think looks best. I have 2 concerns with HS that are tough to address: creating a consistent look and feel for all games; system specs. I haven't done any research into these other than viewing a few sample videos, so I don't know what the answers are though.

Out of respect for Tom we should probably keep the HyperSpin related posts to a minimum. I'm not sure if posting videos here is appropriate. Both authors have a great amount of respect for each others projects and we even share a moderator with them. I've had personal chats with Bill on numerous occations and have alot of respect for him and his project as well, and he happens to be a great guy to boot. Both FE's are innovators in the scene but also very different beasts as well.

As for launching HyperSpin from GameEx you could set it up as an external program. But I don't think it would make sense to launch it from selecting a game.

Share a moderator?

Actually I really don't see the point in intergrating the two FE's either.

You didn't realise you were a HyperSpin forum mod? :blink: I thought it would be obvious to you (of all people) who I meant!

How did you become the first mod there anyway? Were you friends with Bill before HyperSpin came along? I know you live close to him and have met him in RL a few times.

Lol!!! Ya man I got it.

Actually I made mod there because of my contributions to HS I was a beta tester long before it was released. BBB posted a teaser videos at byoac a while back and I contacted him. I asked him if HS could launch all those emus it showed in the video and how it worked. We all know diffrent emus have diffrent requirments. He told me he only had mame and genesis working. I told him if he would let me beta test it I could get all the other systems on the wheel going. So I put my money where my mouth was and built configs and discovered a number of issues along the way. After everything was going the beta was released to a handfull more people. By this time BBB had his own new forum and wanted help managing it. Since I know alot about how HS works and my reputatation I got the mod posistion.

I have met Billy a few times in real life he is a nice guy. In his early thirtys and just got a new home.

I'm very happy for him

I think of GE as more then just a mame frontend. It does so much out the box, that many other emus require plugins and such to do the same thing.

My GameEx didn't come with a box. I registered, and everything, and still, NO BOX! Tom! Where the hell is my box? I'm not buying from you anymore, I'm buying from where ever LingPanda gets his stuff from!! I'll teach you to mess with me! I can't believe that you thought I wouldn't find out that other customers get a box with their GameEX. You really should know better! You know, the more I type, the madder I get. This is BS! After all I've done for you,this is how you treat me? :angry:

I think Tempest's box got redistributed with the last stimulus package. One of the big 3 CEO's probably got it and was all "WTF is this crap!? I can't use this to pay for fuel for my jet. Now how am I going to fly to Tahiti for that 'convention'?"
