different version of mame for light guns possible

would it be possible to use a different version of mame within game ex for just light guns? i have game ex running great with the command line version of mame, but a friend gave me a set of act labs guns and i have them working fine with a version of mame 32 but trying to get them working with my command line version i end up messing up tracklball, so what i am asking is could game ex use the mame 32 just for light gun games and the command line version for all else

Yes if you use a loader. I wrote MAME_Loader to do just this task. Here's the topic that contains all the details and the script itself.

The alternative is to use MultiMAME. I think MultiMAME is a better solution, but it's a lot harder to get going.
