Mame32 - Every game after loading screen goes back to GameEx

Every time I try to load a Mame32 game in the latest version of GameEx it loads theg ame at the blue window with the controls and then just returns to the game menu in GameEx.

Every game works when loading through the MameUI and directly into Mame32.

M.A.M.E. v0.109
Windows XP SP2

Hardware Specifications
AMD Sempron® LE-1150 Processor (256KB L2 Cache, 2.0GHz, 1600MHz), 1GB DDRII Memory, 80GB Hard Disk Drive, DVD-ROM/CD-RW Optical Drive, NVIDIA GeForce Go 6100 Graphics, High-Definition Audio

and I have attatched my gameex and log ini's as text documents

Thanks in advance for any help.

Check your paths, and make sure that you have the correct name for the Mame.exe in GameEx.

I have never been able to work out why people insist on using mameui for command line execution..?

You are best to use the windows command line version of mame - this will also cure many problems.

it may well be one of a number of problems, are you using any command line switches (triple buffer etc), these can also cause problems?

Remove all if present and try again (personally - with mame.exe command line version)

EDIT: Sorry, just looked through your logs and you are not using any switches that may cause problems (joy and no win).. Not sure if mameui (i dont use it) uses an ini to parse extra commands to the executable, others may be able to verify this. But there could be a problem there. My recommendation for the windows command line version still stands ;)

Darn Flash... you really are a The Flash!! You beat me to this one. ;)

I agree with GF 100%. Dump MAME32 and use the Windows command line version of the MAME emulator. It's better for GameEx and gives you less troubles.. and might even be faster for an older PC.

What you are doing is essentially running a GUI inside of a GUI by using MAME32.

Go here for the latest version... plus you can then come back and ask how to patch MAME to use the Highscores again, and dump the info screens permanently.

Nope, not yet. What is that Goodbase 64 anyway? Is it a front end? I was reading the site, and downloaded the v.05 but it never posted any kind of exe or shortcut anywhere. When I ran it, it created a ton of lettered folders as if it wanted to change the names of the roms. How do you use this program, and what is it?

I've been cleaning up my C64 folder this week as it was a total mess. I'd like to put my C64 issues to bed at this point, it's the last emulator I am going to load on my rig. I like the 'old school' stuff.

I was going to add the Amiga as well, but I only ran about 6-8 games on it, most others needed keyboard or mouse support, which I don't want. I don't think it's worth the hassle of setting up UAE to run them.

Thanks for asking... what games did you program on the C64?

Alright, so that is working great. All the roms are now working within GameEX using the MAME binary.

Now how do I patch it to use high scores and get rid of that annoying copyright screens where I have to hit right on my joystick?

Go here and read... it's not too bad, in fact, it's easier than it ever was thanks to HeadKaze. If I can do it.. you definitely can. :)

Disregard my last post, I read the instructions more carefully and I realized it can be done with Mame binay, I just have to skip the MameUI steps.

My new question is however, I am compiling Mame ver 128 and I am pretty sure I have done everything correctly and followed the steps in the post but I keep getting these errors when patching the diff files.

I am getting these types of errors throughout:

--------------------------

File to patch:

Skip this patch? [y]

Skipping patch.

1 out of 1 hunk ignored

can't find file to patch at input line 23003

Perhaps you used the wrong -p or --strip option?

The text leading up to this was:

--------------------------

|diff -Nru src-old/version.c src/version.c

|--- src-old/version.c 2008-10-16 01:59:25.000000000 -0700

|+++ src/version.c 2008-10-23 02:15:58.000000000 -0700

--------------------------

any ideas?

You need the romset from goodbase (v3 is the best one for now) and the rom renamer (I think it is in the stick with my config). This will rename all your roms and zip them. This will give you the roms in zipped format for use with GameEx.
