Logitech Rumblepad configuration for Emulators

So I'm just starting to play around with my Rumblepads. I was just about to set up my Sega games when I realized that the gamepad has 4 buttons whereas Sega games had either 3 or 6. There's also the 4 shoulder buttons availble, so I'm not limited on buttons, but they aren't in the original location.

Anyway, I was just curious if anyone has any input on how they map their Sega games with a Rumblepad. I'm excited to get N64 going since I'll finally have analog controls! I'm just not sure about Sega...

I'm going to do a search over at BYOAC next, but I thought I would ask here too.

I use Pinnacle Game Profiler. Check it out here http://www.pinnaclegameprofiler.com/

Logitech includes a profiler application that is actually required in order to use the game pads. My question was more on the lines of what buttons do you assign to what? There are 4 buttons on the controller whereas the Sega controllers had 3 or 6. What buttons do you have set to what (not what do you use to map them)?

Here's what I have for my Logitech Dual Action Gamepads bkenobi! It's really a matter a preference. I chose this layout to kind of mirror the SNES. So I used SFII to compare buttons when mapping so that they are the same for both systems.

Emulator Buttons = Logitech Buttons

A = 2 Button

B = 3 Button

C = 5 Button

Start = 10 Button

Mode = 9 Button

X = 1 Button

Y = 4 Button

Z = 6 Button

Thanks for the input. That's probably the best way to do it since both systems had similar titles. I'll give this a try, thanks! Btw, do you use the Logitech software to map buttons or do you use something else (the emulator, XPadder, Pinnacle, etc)?

I use the emulator to map my buttons as much as I can. If it's not supported in the emulator I then turn to XPadder. I gave Pinnacle a try after the recommendation by Krackerman and it's pretty much the same as the Logitech Profiler which is what I use on one of my Gaming PC's. So again it's a matter of preference. I try to keep my setups simple when it comes to emulation.

I was using XPadder to remap everything (except MAME of course). I had everything set up to use the same set of keys so I only needed one profile. I'll probably do the same now when possible.

Btw, have you found any way to use your Logitech pads without the Logitech software running? I like to keep as few programs running as possible to keep things clean and simple. When I try to use the pads without the software though, it acts like the gamepads don't work (they show up, but they don't respond).

Hmmmmm. My gamepads work just fine without using the Logitech Profiler Application. I'm using them on this machine as we speak for all my emulation needs. Not sure if the Rumblepads require it or not but my dual action gamepads work just fine without it.

Yeah, I've tried running without the Logitech software and they just don't function. Perhaps I should ask Logitech customer service to see if there's a way around it. I've already added it to my login script and it doesn't seem to cause any problems, so I don't know if it makes that much difference. It would definitely be better without it if possible though.

Bummer! Well if that's the case I would strictly use the Logitech Profiler for all your modifications so that you can keep your set up slimmed down as much as possible. :(
