Hello everyone. I am pretty new to gameex and am having problems launching emulators. When I select/play the game from within gameex the screen flashes black(no sound) for a few seconds and then returns to the gameex screen. I have read other posts, and set showdesktop to yes. This does it for my snes, nes and genesis roms. Here is part of the log file from my genesis set up:

Welcome to the GameEx forum!

First things first. Read the following thread and see if you can fix it. This is probably a simple fix that will be obvious if you go through these steps. If you still can't get it resolved, come back here and post the suggested files. Also, please let us know if that thread is helpful and/or if it could use improvements in any way. Thanks!

NOTE: This thread was supposed to be made into a sticky, but apparently that hasn't happened yet.

OK I read through the post and I might be missing it but it just tells you how to ask for help. And according to that I forgot to mention that:

1.) Yes the emulator works without gameex

4.) Here is the runit.bat

C:

CD "C:\Program Files\GameEx"

GameExConfig.exe

IThe others were listed in the first post. If theres anything else I am missing please do not hesitate to tell me/ask me.

Post the contents of runitgame.bat

Well, that thread is intended to help give new users the first steps to try. These are the same steps we typically will post first as suggestions, so it just saves a little typing and some of your time in getting things fixed (because we aren't ALWAYS online).

The runit.bat file that you posted shows the command to launch GameEx Config. As frequency said, you need to post the contents of runitgame.bat. Also, it's only useful if you run the problem game immediately prior to posting the contents. This file contains the exact commands that GameEx uses to launch the game. If that set of commands is malformed, then it won't run correctly.

This is all that was in runit.bat:

C:

CD "C:\Emulators\Gens"

gens+.exe "c:\sega\John Madden NFL # SMD.zip"

Thanks again

And what are your results when running runitgame.bat?

Try adding "pause" at the end of runit.bat... right click on "Run Last Game" choose edit, and type "pause" at the bottom. Save it, and run it again. It will leave the dos window open, and maybe you will see an error. Don't forget that you have to have just run a Gens+ game for the runit.bat to be correct.

The reason we sound confused is because everything looks ok. The only thing we can't tell is if the roms path, and working path are correct, so double-check those as well....

cmd box says:

c:\Emulators\Gens>gens+.exe "c:\sega\John Madden NFL # SMD.zip"

'gens=.exe' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.

edit: For the rom paths I typed them in and then after it didnt work a couple of times I used the browse function just to make sure I got it right, same result though.

depending on the rom or emulator.

For sega genesis I have them in .zip

Yes but what's the extension of the rom inside the zip? Cuz when I tried running my roms through that emulator it didn't like the extensions of my set. My set has the extension md and that emulator requires it to be smd so I had to rename it for it to run for that particular system.

I would think it's the working path then... Did you browse for it as well?

Footnote: I see you Flash! If you agree with me i'm going off on you! (Just a friendly warning) :P

.smd within the zip files

Also why does it say 'gen=.exe' ?????

You sure you have the correct command-line in your system and just not posting it correctly here in the forums?

Then it has to be your paths as Tempest suggested!

So you're sure your emulator is in the following path?

C:\Emulators\Gens

Yes I let gameex download them and left them in the folder that they were downloaded into.

I will attach a jpg so you can see for yourself

Ok but that says gens and not gens+ so you're not using the correct executable. So gens+.exe is incorrect!

I says that because I am a bad typer. attached a screen of the cmd command line

Command-line should be:

gens.exe "[ROMPATH]\[ROMFILE]"

You were correct both were correct. I edited the file path and it is working. So that was the file path that gameex put in there originally I was just wondering why it would do that and is there a gens+ emu?

Also is I know you can use alt-enter for full screen in gens but is there a way to make it open as full screen. I found where to do it in zsnes but can't seem to find it in gens options.

Once again thanks sooooo much. I knew I had to be doing something wrong.

Yes there is a gens+ emulator as well which is why we couldn't see anything wrong with what you were doing. I personally think Fusion is a better emulator for that system. But to each his own. So if you wanna use that emulator, it's up to you.

Looks like it doesn't save the fullscreen option in the cfg so you would have to send alt+enter in the send keys or maybe can make the setting and set the Gens.cfg file to read-only.

We could probably get one of the Mods to change your user name to "terrortyper"

When you import an emulator config, always make sure the filenames, and paths are correct!

Look at the bright side... you learned more today on how to troubleshoot a problem than most of the users will ever know.

Have a good one!

footnote: I think I will add more info on the runitgame.bat in my "help us help you" post...
