Have you looked at using an advanced config for your emu's? There is a multi-key exit combo that can be set up to do just what you are asking about.

all i want is the right thumb stick button to exit the emulator that is the button I have set on xpadder

Best thing to do is copy one of the current ones already included with GameEx and set it to map the way you want. These files are located in the GameEx\CONFIG\EMULATORS directory of your GameEx install. Just copy one of the files and name it to something you want and then open the file and edit these settings:

[GAMEPADEXIT]

#MAP Gamepad controls to exit and make controls exit process

MapGamePadExit=true

#Flag the controls that exit a game by placing True next to each control. To not use the control as part of the combination use a 0

Left=
Down=
Right=
Up=
Button1=
Button2=
Button3=
Button4=
Button5=
Button6=
Button7=
Button8=
Button9=
Button10=
Button11=
Button12=

Add True next to the button(s) you want to map to exit the emulator and have GameEx use that config found in Emulator Setup.

In order to figure out what button you need to set to true, you can use the windows controller setup util and go to properties. It will show you what button you are pressing at the time. Just press the one you want and set that one to true in GameEx.

Left=

Down=

Right=

Up=

Button1=

Button2=

Button3=

Button4=

Button5=

Button6=

Button7=True

Button8=True

Button9=

Button10=

Button11=

Button12=

set my xpadder to start button= 7=esc

Thanks So Much for your help I finally worked it out when looking through my post of my ini file I had left other buttons to true which I have now edited I also edited the post which is now set right just incase anyone else has this problem

The first line with "Left=True" does tend to hide for some reason. I've missed it myself before. Glad you got it working. BTW, you don't need to use XPadder for this at all now. In fact, the way you have XPadder set up is wrong if you only want to send escape when you press both buttons 7 and 8. What you have setup is either 7 or 8 will send escape. If you want to do a combination like you are suggesting, you need to use sets. It's a bit complicated to explain, so unless you really need it, I'll just stop here.

Have fun!

For MAME you wanna follow these steps:

  • Press the {TAB} key to bring up the menu.
  • Select Input (general).
  • Select User Interface.
  • Scroll down to UI Cancel and press {ENTER} and map the keys you want to exit MAME.

This will work for mame32 (Now known as MAMEUI32) as well. You must have remapped {TAB} as well then. You might wanna check your default.cfg found in the cfg directory of your MAME install. Open it up and see what you have mapped to bring up the menu and then use that key instead unless you remember what it is. Or you'll have to delete the default.cfg and setup your controls from scratch.

Do this while a game is loaded. Won't work just doing it in MAME32. So load a game and when the game loads then press {TAB}. Yes you'll be able to map the keys for insert coin as well. You can map everything in this setting.

This is a global setting which will write the settings to the default.cfg. Now if you change these settings for an individual game then it would write it to the rom.cfg, rom being the name of your rom. So should only need to do this once unless you want a specific game to have a different setup.
