Hello all..

Preface: I've scoured the forums here and seems others have had similar issue with playing ripped dvd's in GameEx. I have made sure the configuration had VMR9, and FFDSHOW both on and off and tried VMR9 on with FFDShow off and visa versa and still cannot play the DVD's I stored on my Hard Drive through GameEx.

When I go to MultiMedia/HTPC -> DVDs it properly shows the two I placed in there and it even grabbed the box "snap" (if that is correct terminology) showing what the DVD Cover looks like.

These 2 DVD's I ripped to my pc can be played through both VLC and PowerDVD8 just fine.

Problem seen:

When I click on either of the above mentioned DVD's shown, it goes to a black screen. No audio, nor video is shown. Only until I either press ESC or the right mouse button am I allowed back to the DVD list screen.

Looking into the log.txt file I see this towards the end...

01:57:03.7 9/28/2008: Playing DVD From Disk: Matrix Reloaded

01:57:27.6 9/28/2008: Error HRESULT E_FAIL has been returned from a call to a COM component.

01:57:27.6 9/28/2008: at DvdCore.DvdEngineClass.SetDirectory(String directory)

at q.a(Boolean A_0, Boolean A_1, String A_2, String A_3, Boolean A_4)

Any help will be greatly appreciated in getting this resolved.

Thx

Bic

I think I may have found someting....

The folder I have my DVD's ripped to "D:\DVD\" each individual folder only has the one .vob file that is in there and that is all - no other files.

Just to see if perhaps I did something wrong, I re-ripped Matrix Reloaded in a different fasion I noticed that it placed the following files in the VIDEO_TS folder.

VTS_01_1.VOB <- Primary ripped Matrix Reloaded .vob file. Plays fine by itself in VLC and PowerDVD

VIDEO_TS.IFO

VIDEO_TS.BUP

VTS_01 - Stream Information.txt

VTS_01_0.ifo

VTS_01_0.VOB

When played in GameEx I am able to see on the screen the attached picture, but nothing plays either video or sound.

If I move all files except VTS_01_1.VOB to a different folder and go back to MultiMedia/HTPC -> DVDs and try to play Matrix Reloaded it just goes to a black screen and almost instantly pops back to the DVD like it did before and shows my 2 dvd's listed to choose from (Matrix Reloaded and Matrix Revolutions.

After this It seems GameEx expects certain files to be there to play correctly? I am only assuming this from the test done above

I used DVDDecrypter and ripped the two DVD's with the "IFO" type so that it places the entire DVD into one file. I am currently re-ripping again as "File" and will see how it goes.

Maybe GameEx doesn't know what an IFO ripped is? I'm new to ripping as well and is only conjuncture in my thoughts. After re-ripping as Mode -> File in DVDDecrypter i'll test again and let you know..

Thx

That's the "fix" (if it can be called that)..

While in DVDDecrypter I went under "Mode" and then chose "File"

It ripped the entire DVD (which isn't really what I want :( ) to the D:\DVD\Matrix Revolutions\VIDEO_TS folder.

Ran GameEx, went into MultiMedia/HTPC -> DVDs it repopulated Matrix revolutions, I clicked on it and it ran fine (including all menu items).

On a side note will GameEx be able to in the future allow the "IFO" rip? I chose that initially as it crams the entire DVD into one .VOB file to save disk space (as I really don't want or need the entire DVD).

In DvDDecrypter to make an IFO you choose "Mode" then click on "IFO".

Under "Input" that then shows up on the right checkmark what chapters you want.

Under "Stream Processing" chose the language you want (you can disable french, etc

Choose Destination then click on the DVD button on the bottom left corner..

After it's done it creates on DVD of ONLY the movie, no other info.

Granted this option won't allow you to skip chapters, etc, but was the way I was hoping to use the GameEx in program player.. /sadpanda..

Anywho's... I am using Version 3.5.4.0 of DVD Decrypter fyi for testing if you decide to do such..

Thx again

Bic.
