At one time this feature was available in my installation. However, it disappeared at some point. I verified that in Enable/Disable Features section in the Advanced Configuration, the "Hide Create Snaps" is set to "No"

I have not had the chance to setup a spare PC with a fresh install of GameEx to see if this problem exists there as well so I thought I would check first to see if anyone else encountered this first and has a quick solution.

Any ideas?

Or to save time are there any other source for screenshot sets besides GameEx.net, Emumovies or No-Intro Screen Shot Archive that are named to match one of the dat naming formats?

Thanks

Ive just tested with the latest version, seems to be there for me.

I didn't doubt it was there. I was doubting my installation. Something is obviously messed up. I'll try to figure it out and post a solution in case anyone else encounters this.

Thanks.

You could post your gameex.ini file if you want someone else to take a look.

I installed latest GameEx on a spare system. I configured a single emulator and the Create Snaps option is of course there. I've noticed something on the fresh install that is different than the old install. The options at the top when listing games for an emulator are different.

This is what it looks like on the Fresh install:

<Create Snaps> <Change View> <Back> <Home> <Exit>

This is what it looks like on the Old install:

<By Name> <By Category> <By Manufacturer> <By Year> <Change View> <Back> <Home> <Exit>

I looked all around the advaced configuration options and I don't see how to change what items appear in that row of options.

Does that help explain where the problem is ?

Thanks!

Ok. Here is my gameex.ini

Thanks!

Ummm, it looks like it didn't upload. The message board only takes files of certain file extension. Either rename the file to a .txt extension or zip it and then post again.

make sure your snap path is valid in the config.. You may not have the option if it isnt.

I have started getting this behaviour too. The Create Snaps option in one emulator suddenly disappeared. I tried disabling the database for it as suggested in the FAQ, then reenabling it. Didn't work. So then I tried hiding create snaps, loading GameEx, exiting and turning on the Snaps again. Now they're all gone. No emulator has Create Snaps available. The same thing happened to me on my old machine before.

How can I get them back? Is there a cache something that I can delete?

I can upload ini files or anything else if necessary.

Thanks for any help in advance.

Hidesnaps is set to false

Oops I forgot about this post. I just replied to the 9.77 post about this saying I am having this problem. I'll get my ini file uploaded correctly when I get home. If only I could use GameEx at work. That would be pretty fun on a slow week...

Is the "Create Snaps" option cached somewhere perhaps?

A long time ago I had a weird problem with a directory of really horrible songs that I no longer wanted refusing to go away from the FileTag list even though that directory was no longer in my settings for audio. I fixed it by deleting three files in the Data folder -- and never saw those songs again.

Since this "Create Snaps" missing problem happened after turning on "Hide Snaps" then turning it off again -- I'm guessing (and only guessing) that perhaps the menus are cached somewhere, and no updating for some reason. If the menus are cached -- where are they and what are they called? I went through all the folders in the GameEx directory but couldn't find anything that looked like it *might* be a menu cache.

I have tried turning databases off and on again as suggest in the FAQ, but that did nothing.

Did you set a path for the snaps? I don't believe that option is available unless a path is set.

Yes, it is set for all of my emulators. I had the "Create Snaps" option available for some time. It suddenly disappeared for PSX, and then while trying to fix it for PSX it is now gone for EVERYTHING -- even videos.

Did you enable the create snaps option in advanced config or the wizard?

Yes, Hide Create Snaps is set to false.

Here it is, renamed to GameEx.txt

Thanks!

Anybody have any luck with my, or wahoo's ini files?

Perhaps, someone with Create Snaps working could post their INI file and I could try that.

Here's my GameEx.ini from my laptop. It is a copy of the one on my game cab, so it has alot of emulators set up, but none of them are enabled, except Moljnir. Obviously you will need to adjust the paths to yours.

I will play with yours later today, so if you find that mine helps you out, please stop me...

Thanks Tempest!

I just tried it and.... No Create Snaps!

I really think GameEx is caching the menus somewhere and has become "stuck". Anyone know enough about the internals of GameEx to know whether that's a possibility?

I think that this is enough to establish that this goes beyond a simple configuration problem anyways.

In any case, I have no clue of how to proceed with this. Any ideas out there?

JellyBelly,

I tried your GameEX.ini, using N64, SNES, PSX, and Sega CD, because those four I had setup with the same emulators as you, and it was just a simple path change to make them work. I think you are right, there is something goofy in your setup, because all four emulators have the Create snaps option available. I would suggest an offline download, and install of gameEx, to a new folder, and keeping your existing copy until you are sure you have moved everything you need. I'm sure you know this, but all settings (including emulator configs) are in the GameEx.ini, and the favorites are in data.mdb. If you need anything else, let me know.

I'm assuming that either you are not from the U.S., or you are unsure of the correct spelling of "Favorites" :)

Thanks for all the help Tempest. Going to give a reinstall a try now.

Grumbles...

Just did a re-install, copied over my GameEx.Ini and no Create Snaps.

Argh! This is extremely frustrating. I can't see anything wrong at all.

I was going to suggest that you use a program like Beyond Compare to compare your ini to mine, but I don't see how it could help. My ini works on my machine, and your ini works on my machine, so what could it be? Not that I'll be able to help you beyond this point, (Lack of Skills), but what OS are you using? I'm running XP64.
