Hello again,

I've been exploring the heck out of GameEx and so far, it's fantastic. It's definately the cutting edge on Game Cabinet front ends.

On to the questions, some of which are silly, but need to be asked... keep in mind, little kids use my cabinets, so I have to make things as SIMPLE as possible...even for us adults after a few rounds... ;)

1. I'd like to jump letters in my MAME list, rather than just hold the stick down and let it scroll. With all the other front ends, push the stick left or right (arrow left/arrow right mapping) I used to be able to jump from A to F to K... or just jump from A to B to C... etc. How can I do this in GameEx. I don't want to use the buttons on the control panel. I see the keyboard mapping options, but nothing is mentioned about left or right in the game listing. Left and Right move me from the list to the options up top. Not good.

2. I'd like to drop all options from all lists, including 'Add to Favorites'. I don't see an option to do that in the Emulators menu. Can that be done? I've gotten it down pretty low... also I want to drop the list on the left 'By name, by year.... etc. As little as possible is what I need.

3. How the heck does the Jukebox start automatically? I just can't get this to work.

That's it for now. I appreciate any help you can give. I know how hard it is to make these things, for donation money. I intend to donate to kill the wait time, but right now I just want to get GameEx as minimal as possible.

Thanks in advance,

IMBerzerk

Press and hold button 1 and press up and down.. It will cycle pages at a time. The key is re-definable using the seyup wizard under input settings

Try game launcher mode

3. How the heck does the Jukebox start automatically? I just can't get this to work.

Is this something you want or not? All the jukebox setting are in the multimedia menu in the gameex advanced config.

That's it for now. I appreciate any help you can give. I know how hard it is to make these things, for donation money. I intend to donate to kill the wait time, but right now I just want to get GameEx as minimal as possible.

I thought you would donate to gameex because your happy with the program and the support... Oh well.. If the Nag screen is the motivation then all hail the gammex nag screen :)

Thanks in advance,

Not to be rude, but at least 1 and 2 are answered in the FAQ. Oh well...

Thanks for the help B. Hoffman... I kept looking through the menus, and man, there are plenty to play with... and I found some of my own answers. I appreciate your help.

bkenobi.... rude... yeah, well I'm sure you can't help that. That's always the best way to build a solid fan base.

I'll read the FAQ myself and figure it out. Again, seeing this is the 4th Front end I've put in this particular cabinet in 8 years (MAME32, ArcadeOS, MameWah, Mala), I can handle it. Thank for taking the time to look down at my from your Ivory Tower of Knowledge.

Just to let you know, I am 1 of 7 other Developers of a WWI sim called Over Flanders Fields, due for commercial release this October/November. We run our own forums on Sim-Outhouse, SimHQ, and AirCombat.com... and treat every Newbie with respect, no matter how stupid the question is. Our fan base is massive if you're into Air Combat PC sims.

So I may not be experienced with GameEX.... but I know how to treat people.

Best regards,

IMBerzerk.

I'm am sorry you feel that way,

But Bkenobi is right in saying that some of your questions are answered in the FAQ and it is always worth reading that first. Not just to answer your current questions, but you may also find things of use that you did not know was possible.

This IS a friendly forum and we all do our best to help, but as you must also understand from your other active forums, it does get tiresome answering the same questions over and over when effort has been made to answer them previously in the forums (all 3 questions if brian has not deleted them ;) ) and also in the FAQ.

Just to add Bkenobi is a great help on the forum and i for one cannot see how you found his post upsetting. All he has done is state that you can find some of your answers in the FAQ???????? :/

This was a really angry response for such a benign comment. Where did you get the idea that he was 'looking down at you from his ivory tower' from that? As a developer you should be able to sympathize with how frustrating it can be to have to answer the same questions over and over for people when they don't bother to read the FAQ. I think if you relax and don't take things so personally you'll find the people on this forum some of the most helpful around. Comments like the above aren't likely to elicit help from anyone. <_<

Just to be clear, I'm NOT trying to piss you off, or run you away... ;)

Since you are new to Gameex, I wanted to tell you that there are two programs to configure Gameex with.

1. Setup wizard - It has the basic tools that you need to get started with Gameex. It also has a search feature, to help you find what you are looking for. I don't use the jukebox, but if you use the Setup Wizard, and search for "jukebox", I'm sure you would find what you need. I use the Setup Wizard when I'm looking to change a feature, but I can't remember where it is. The Setup Wizard also has a "Verify Setup" that I use no matter which program I used to setup Gameex just to check to see if I missed something. The setup wizard (AFAIK) is a little outdated, so the verify setup feature may find "errors" that really aren't errors anymore. I.E. : Gameex has been updated to allow .avi's for emulator icons, but the setup wizard will report an error if you do.

2. Advance Configuration - Allows far more options to setup Gameex, and emulators, but lacks the search, and verify options of Setup Wizard.

I'm on your side, I tried other FE's too, and although none are perfect, Gameex is the one I could get going the easiest, and it has alot of features. I'm not sure what the other FE's have for features anymore, (I'm sure they've all improved), but I really like the CPWizard, and LED/LCD Plugins, and the Utlrastik 360 plugin if you have one of Ultimarc's U360 joysticks.

Also, Adultery has a nice step by step guide to both configuration programs here: http://hfc-essentials.net/gameex/gesetup.php

My apologies for sounding blunt. I was mainly trying to point out that we (as a community, not just me) have spent a lot of time trying to answer all the common questions in advance. This is in an effort to help new users get started as much as it is to try to keep the forum easy to use/search by having less repetition of the same questions and answers. Brian already answered the questions you had, so I was primarily trying to suggest that if you have any other questions, you might be able to find them in the FAQ. If not, feel free to post a question, we (as a community) try very hard to get everyone willing to put in minimal effort up and running as quickly as possible.

Remember, this is not a paying gig, it's a hobby that we spend a few minutes here and there on (typically). It's supposed to be fun.... :D

I sincerely apologize... thanks for correcting me. I just thought I was going to go through another MAME forum disaster every time I ask a question. I've been around MAME and emulation for years... probably 10 now as MAME is 10 years old and I still have one of the first editions. In fact.... Nostalgia the Intellivision Emulator... Joe Fisher was a friend of mine, and I Beta tested several versions of it before it was finalized.... which it still isn't, he wanted to go further but never did. I even used to run an Intellivsion website called the Intellivision Bodega... that's how long I've been into this hobby.

But as I found in the past, it seems when you ask questions on certain forms that involve guys that are at a higher brain wave that the users, it can get ugly. I've seen the same thing happen on the Daphne forum as well.

So when I got that response, my reaction was what it was, my bad, I over-reacted with the preconception I stated above. Like I said, I'm not a new kid on the block, just new to GameEx.

Ayhoots... it won't stop me from being here, it looks like a good place and nice folk... plus this front end kicks supreme a$$.

All the best, and thanks for answering my question. PS... it is certainly easier to ask you questions in English that it was to ask a question on Mala's forum which was in German. I had to copy everything into a translater, than back into the forum and PRAY I wasn't insulting someone with the wrong word.

BTW... maybe I should point out why IMBerzerk is my call-sign. My first cabinet was made from a Berzerk cabinet which I completely refurbed with all that great stuff Ultimarc mkes. Andy rocks!

Welcome to the forums IMBerzerk! Hope we can make your experience here a pleasant one. Some of us are smarta$$'s so don't take it too personal. ;)

Not it isn't! you just forgot the apostrophe "I'm Berzerk" ;)

Welcome to the GameEx community.

Glad you responded with an explanation IMBerserk, I think we've all been on the receiving end of some intellectual brow beating so a knee-jerk reaction is understandable. You'll find the regulars here all very helpful unless someone's being an absolute a-hole. The time you spend learning the ins-and-outs of GameEx is well spent, it's a great front end. Welcome to the community!

Maybe I'm having a knee-jerk reaction, but who are you calling a amarta$$?

BTW: IMBerzerk, IMTempest!

LOL!.. I guess it's about time I made an avatar with a Berzerk robot in it.... ;)

Glad to be here, and I have already learned why my highscores do not keep. I'll recompile MAME and sort that out now that I know.

All the best,

IMBerzerk

Oh I won't get specific about that. :P

I'll just say two things about that. I'm one. And the other thing is a smarta$$ is better than a dumba$$.
