Theme Competition

GameEx 9.49, with thanks to Headkaze completes the version 4 theme implementation with support for foreground images that overlay the background and snaps. Im quite exctied to see what new themes people come up with, so in order to offer a little motivation there will be a competition until end of october for the best themes. The top 5, and we may not even get that many, will get a GameEx license and EmuMovies lifetime FTP access. Upload your completed themes to the main site, and then post on the forum under the Theme Competition thread. If you need to make changes to your upload just contact me.

Game Ex is an awesome front end, the only thing missing is that flair or polished look IMO. The layout is excellent, it just needs the look.

My new vertical theme is coming along nicely. Don't think this'll have a big chance in the competition (most users don't rotate their screens I think+) as only MAME, Raine and some PC games support true vertical mode (or as the shmup community calls it "TATE").

Here's the loading screen and the snap.png for theme selection:

It has what I personally use with a vertical cab, and if someone has suggestions for other backgrounds, please reply in this thread.

Well, I think youve got a great chance as your the only entry

I wonder if I can get some volunteers for judges. It might seem a little biased if Im judging, not really appropriate.

Anyone up for helping out?

On another note, Tom, how about upping the ante a bit on the competition? The winner can submit a feature request that gets bumped up really high on the todo-list? I would really like to see scrolling backgrounds sometime soon.

I don't know if any of the new themes are complete and submitted. From the sounds of it, this could be an easy contest to win since I haven't seen any submissions posted yet.

I get the same errors on my Vista machine but on my cabinet (XP x64) It works fine. Must be another Vista problem

It's not just a Vista problem. I get errors as well on XP.

Cannot Set Resolution to: 1600x1200 32 bit color.

Sorry, been gone. The standard ini is for 1600x1200, I included a 800x600 ini as well, does that crash your system too? I noticed on my box that GameEx would crash if the display was not at 1600x1200.

Additionally, now that layers are supported for other screens, I'm going to go back and seperate the background images. Although, this will double the already large size of the theme...

Well, I just don't know what that error is referencing. I tried to go in and just add black images for the elements I didn't want to use, but that didn't seem to do anything.

Then, I checked out the GameEx Downloads page, and the only non TSpiers version 4 theme I saw up there was Aliencade/BioCade.

These also gave me 21 consecutive errors:

Okay, here goes I guess. This theme is ONLY for vertical monitor orientation. Horisontal looks like a joke. Enjoy the mindbending animated backgrounds!
