This is a major release and would not have been possible without the hard work of Flash (AKA GreatGlash) and Headkaze.

The changes are fully listed below but the two big enhancments are that now version 4 themes have been fully implemented, giving GameEx powerfull skinning capabilites that we would have all liked from the beginning. The Theme Editor has been updated thanks to the hard work of Headkaze.

In addition database support has been greatly improved within GameEx and Flash has very kindly updated 90% of the databases with the following been completely finalised - Saturn, Colecovision, PC-FX, Dreamcast, and a brand new Visual Pinball database. Flash was also instrumental in fixing and perfecting the database support in GameEx.

  • Version 4 themes
    • Theme Editor version 2
    • Support second image
    • Run at any reslution with rescaling
    • Convert between all theme versions and resize. The Theme Editor will now allow you to create a new version of and convert any existing gameEx theme.

  • Databases
    • Includes Flashâ??s new dbases.
    • New Biography page when using v3/v4 themes
    • When loading databases (for the fist time, prior to caching), GameEx will try an exact match of the rom first before trying with removed brackets and removed version number etc.
    • Setting in advanced config to use the name field from the database instead of the formatted rom name. If on this will override a pre set map file.
    • Fixes database â??â?¦â? issue
    • Emulator Groups now fully support databases
    • Fixes all known issues with database support

  • Fixes/Changes
    • Please wait animation now shows when extracting games when using zip/7-zip support.
    • Fixes to snap matching
    • Several Performance/Caching enhancements
    • Fixes bug when pressing maximize button on window for second time.
    • Fixes issue where emulator list and database wouldnâ??t use cache when using 7-zip/zip support
    • Smoother display/animations on slower systems. Please report issues.
    • Fixes Videos/DVD/Karaoke playing on primary monitor when set to run on secondary

As always feedback and requests are actively encouraged.

So, it's now possible to load an old V2 theme and convert it to V3/4 in order to show the "second image" in game list?

Thats what i've been waiting for .. no other feature requests anymore, happy at last! ^_^

Indeed :) Just create a new theme in the Theme Editor and select the theme you want to convert. Now you can set it to any resolution (can you say widescreen theme?) and set the version to "4" and it will create a new V4 theme.

Wow!

Most of the changes were on my personal "wishlist". Incredible release, thx again for your dedication and hard work!

What do you mean by widescreen? my res is 1440x900, current gameex version 9.43, works fine for me ^^

on mine too, thank god Ima donator, no more nag screens anymore, pure pleasure :lol:

Yes it does, but now you can create themes designed specifically for widescreen as well ;) The Theme Editor was originally limited to a set number of resolutions. That limitation has been removed.

Nice update, but ah, as GameEx was updating I minimized the screen so I could do other things on my computer. Once the updating was finished, I tried to bring the screen back up after it was minimized, but GameEx won't let me. Any ideas on how I can fix this please?

So what happens when you start GameEx now?

There is a new feature "Support second image." What does that mean? Does it mean that I can have multiple flyer images? More than two? How do I name them? How do I navigate between the two (or more) images? Or am I completely off base here, and "image" refers to something else? I'm just saying, if you don't follow the board every day, then just seeing "Support second image" doesn't really tell you anything.

Ok, so I read the replies a bit more carefully, and it seems that "Support second image" refers to the ability to have a second image displayed in the game list. Got it.

With V3/V4 themes GameEx will display a second image in addition to the standard snap. Previosuly if creating your own theme with theme editor, you could only have the snap if you wanted to create a theme. What's displayed in the second image is automatic.

Fixed in 9.47. Available in 5 minutes.

The screen still stays minimized. I keep clicking on GameEx in the taskbar, but nothing happens. Then it'll say "Not Respnding" so I just close it. I thought re-starting my computer would help...no prevail. :( ...sad face

Don't be sad, all is not lost...

Open your Gameex.ini file in notepad and look for this are (disregard the numbers)

ControlSpacing=8

FontSize=17

CSVType=comma

nextaction=onepage

Windowed=False

windowx=-32768

windowy=-32768

windowwidth=918

windowheight=643

CurrentStation=

CurrentStationURL=

Replace whatever values follow the = with

ControlSpacing=8

FontSize=17

CSVType=comma

nextaction=onepage

Windowed=False

windowx=0

windowy=0

windowwidth=640

windowheight=480
