hi all, i'm currently trying to sort out how to keep multi-disc Saturn/Sega-CD/Playstation etc games under a single game entry. due to the size of CD isos, it is too unfeasible to store them in a 7zip archive. moreover, i tried just storing the cuesheet in a 7z but since it extracts to the Unzipped7-Zip subdirectory, and AFAIK i know you can't have relative paths in the file field of a cuesheet, it can't find the image. that would be okay if you could place all the images in the Unzipped7-Zip folder but it erases the contents of said folder every time you launch a game through GameEx. Are there any other options, for instance, is it possible to manually define multidisc ROMs in GameEx so that it nows to collate them under a single entry?

There may be a fancy way of using a MAP file to do this. I'm not very good with MAP files, so someone else would have to verify that.

Also, I'm wondering if it would be possible to create a symbolic link to a file and use that in the 7zip file. If you could do that, then you could use the 7zip support that GameEx already has but not take all the time extracting the images (just small link files). I don't know if there's a way to do that on Windows though.

A map file would be the way to go to list but how are your directories? Are you using multiple directories to store your ISO's?

just the one, although i wouldn't mind changing if it was necessary. just so long as i dont have to change file location in the cuesheet to a static location (like "C:\games\rom.iso" instead of "rom.iso" - that's not very flexible! means having to change every cuesheet if i change folders)

In that case go with a map file. Can have GameEx generate one for you based off your list and then edit it to list the one disc instead of multiple ones. Then have that emu call on the map you edited. I would copy the generated one's contents to a new file to avoid it getting overwritten by GameEx.

actually what i was wanting to do, was for all the discs to fall under the one name. so for example Panzer Dragoon RPG discs 1-4 will all come under the one game entry in the list, "Panzer Dragoon RPG" - like what happens if you enable 7zip support and you can choose which file to load from the 7zip archive from a list but under that game's entry. is there a way to do this with .map's? so far i've only been able to get the .map to link to a single-disc.

Ahh. No. You can not do this with a map file. 7zip is the only way to list the way you're wanting.

Like I said, you might consider looking into the link files. They should be able to do exactly what you are asking.

That's probably gonna be the simple way of doing it. Hard way is making a wrapper to change discs for you for multi-disc games and then would only have to list the one. That's the way I would go about it but would take some tweaking.

psX (the emulator) supports running shortcut .lnks, but when I try to launch them via GameEx (they shortcuts are all zipped up) they don't work - i've got a feeling it has something to do with the syntax of the command line i'm using (i run the CD images directly instead of mounting through daemon tools). i'll have a look into it a bit more, i'm sure there's a way to tweak it around and get it to work.
