Any feedback? Anyone using them here, how do you like them?

Yes, get them, they're great. Wonderful controllers and work excellent with GameEx. Headkaze built a GameEx plugin that automatically sets the joystick map (ie. 4-way, 8-way) to match the mame game so you never have to manually change the joystick map. Fair warning, they're a bit trickier to setup than a standard joystick but they are far more versatile than a standard joystick. You can program custom maps for yourself to tweak game controls as you like. Some people are put off by the fact that you don't have the standard 'click' of a microswitch but i like the smooth control. You can also get restrictor plates and stiffer springs to make them not quite as 'loose' feeling. I would highly recommend.

for me it was more the price that made me use an old 22" of a friend of mine (he gave it to me for free). no question, an arcade monitor shows the graphics as they were meant to be shown, the scanlines and the tv blurriness make the pixels disappear (mostly)

many people might disagree with what i say now but i really got used to it and like this look:

for all emulators and mame i used a graphical "enhancement" called 2x super sai. what it does is smoothing pixels so instead of having a pixel graphic all the shapes look more rounded. it might not be like the original but for displaying games on a crt monitor it was the only way for me to make the games look a bit nicer.

like i said most of you will argue that you lose the original flavor of the game but i really like it after having it now set up like this for almost half a year. it's all a question of personal taste... don't get me wrong, pixels are great but like i said they were not meant to be seen for arcade/console games

Hello:

I have the same problem, when i create videosnaps from GameEx option, it records the video but not the sound, i have tried it with all the codec options in the list, indeed, with CamStudio and Fraps, and it's the same.

I wanted to create it from the GameEx option because it's faster and easier cause it's automatic.

If you can tell me how to do it please...

Thanks.

So if I want to go with a 2 player setup, you would just get two of these and skip a dedicated 4 way?

Most definitely, no reason to waste the space on your cp. For the majority of people the U360 is a great solution. The only way you may want a dedicated 4way is if you're say a pacman fanatic and want the joystick to be an exact replication of the one you played on in the arcade. Even then, I've heard of pacman fans using the U360's and liking them better. You can adjust the feel with stiffer tension springs and restrict movement with the optional restrictor plates which can make it feel more like a dedicated 4way. The U360's are just so versatile, one minute it's an analog controller, the next a 2way, 4way or 8way joy and with the ability to load custom maps it works great for specialty games like Qbert where you need 4way diagonals. Headkaze's plugin for GameEx means they will automatically switch to the proper type (for mame games) when you load a game.

Yup... That is the exact problem here. I wish I could tell you what the solution was but no one has offered it yet. :(

Well here are my two choices.

Wells Gardner D9400 27"

http://www.happ.com/monitors/49520300.htm

27" MakVision High Resolution

http://www.happcontrols.com/monitors/49271700.htm

What one is the better all around monitor for Mame to Dreamcast?

Will either take advantage of my current Radeon 4850 Graphics Card and more importantly, will it work with it?

Which is the better choice? What are the advantages and disadvantages to both?

Thanks for answering... I wish I would have know that before I went to a lot of trouble trying to figure it out... Oh well, at least now I know it is nothing I am doing wrong. :P

Does anyone have anything good or bad to say about either one of these companies? I am looking to deal with either or.

Thanks.

Are you not getting any of these answers at the BYOAC forums? All these questions are not GameEx related. You're flooding the whole 1st page of posts with this stuff. LOL. :P

Quoting bkenobi

I don't mean to send you away, but have you checked out the BYOAC forum? These questions you have been asking are EXACTLY what they do in 90% of the posts. Asking here is fine, but you might find all of your questions answered already in posts over there. If I were you, I would check them out and see what they recommend. If that doesn't clear up all of your questions you can either ask there, here, or both. There's a lot of knowledge in both forums, it's just that this one is primarily focussed on the FE software side of things (both the front end and getting the front end to work with other things).

Anyway, just a suggestion.

Honestly, I am pulling double duty with post on both sites.

I am going to decide soon. =]

Just make one post with hardware questions instead of seperate ones cuz i'm having a hard time helping people that are getting pushed back with all the posts.

If only it could also be a rotary joystick...

Alas, the one shortcoming. :)

I've been looking at other combos of my existing buttons/controls that would be suitable for rotary games but haven't found anything that feels quite right. If you're dead set on having rotary capability you're pretty much stuck getting a rotary stick. For me it wasn't worth cramming them on my CP or sacrificing the U360's.

I know the Wells will work with mame projects, but as I said some people (ie. DJ Infinity) hate them with a passion so read up on them. Not sure about the MakVision. Make sure you get a multi-sync arcade monitor and the Ultimarc card, preferably something with a track record of having worked will with mame. Not sure why those are your only choices but there are other manufacturers you can go with as well.

Will either take advantage of my current Radeon 4850 Graphics Card and more importantly, will it work with it?

No, it doesn't make sense to get an arcade monitor without the corresponding ArcadeVGA card from Ultimarc for mame. The reason you're paying for a multi-sync arcade monitor is so that you can run arcade games at their native resolutions. Otherwise you might as well get a TV or Computer Monitor for half the price.

Well, I would have gone with a pair of U360's or similar analog sticks, but when a local guy basically gave me a pair of LS-30's, I couldn't complain!

I put one in my dad's bartop, and at first I didn't like the feel, but I added the medium spring and the restrictor plate and it made a big difference. Someone also built a plug in that works pretty well for switching between the different modes. I think its on the site somewhere.

So if you want the traditional feel definately get either the extra spring or the restrictor plate.
