When I create avisnaps with Game Ex, is there an option for them to have sound?

I have been encoding them with "Xvid MPEG-4 Codec" but when I do so there is no sound even when I play them in Windows Media Player.

To be honest I never used gameex to record AVI... It may be a codec issue.. But i have used FRAPS and had great luck with it.

Game Ex is the ticket as it will go through all the roms in a dir, load them and record and avi intro for them... Problem is I can't get it to record the sound... :(

Also check out the audio bit rate on the file afterwards, 0. =[

So I am not sure why it is not recording any audio...

In process of a putting together a cabinet and am trying to gather opinions on what monitor would be the best for my setup. I have already spoke to a few people on this but want to get as many opinions as I can on the matter so, yours is important.

If I was just to emulate Mame I would no doubt buy the Wells monitor for my cabinet but that is not the case. I want to be able to run as many system emulators as possible with in this box and am afraid that newer emulated systems like Dreamcast and PSX will not fair well on the Wells.

Help please, this is a big purchase for me and I want to do it right.

Trying to decide between Mameroom and Dream Authentics to purchase from. Mameroom now offers a high res. monitor in there two player where Dream offers a Wells.

Thanks.

Thanks but I am not really looking for a monitor as to so much of what kinda of monitor should I purchase or what makes one monitor better than the other.

Could you help me with that please?

I was reading something like this...

"Wells Gardner

WellsGardner makes a couple of popular choices. They are known in the arcade circles for their arcade monitors, but they also make a couple of PC monitors in arcade monitor mountings. The U3100 comes in a 19" (standard size for most older arcade cabinets) with maximum 1024x768 resolution. The D9100 is a 17" with a maximum resolution of 1280x1024. The D9200 is a 27" with a max resolution of 640 x 480 per specification, though there have been claims of 800x600. All these monitors have the "scan line" look of traditional arcade monitors, which means authentic arcade game feel, but less than stellar Windows quality. Recommended for straight arcade emulation, not recommended for playing other games such as Quake/TombRaider/etc..."

Sounds good for Mame, bad for newer emualtion and maybe newer arcade games?

I don't mean to send you away, but have you checked out the BYOAC forum? These questions you have been asking are EXACTLY what they do in 90% of the posts. Asking here is fine, but you might find all of your questions answered already in posts over there. If I were you, I would check them out and see what they recommend. If that doesn't clear up all of your questions you can either ask there, here, or both. There's a lot of knowledge in both forums, it's just that this one is primarily focussed on the FE software side of things (both the front end and getting the front end to work with other things).

Anyway, just a suggestion.

I would go with any multi-sync arcade monitor combined with the ArcadeVGA Card from Ultimarc. My first cab had a regular Radeon with S-video out card and a mid-range 27" CRT monitor. It got me by but the combo of an arcade monitor and the AVGA card was a huge upgrade and now I'd never go back. As for a VGA computer monitor, I personally don't like the way classic video games (or even the older console emulated games) look on a computer monitor so that wasn't a consideration for me.

Wells Gardner used to have a really good rep with Mame enthusiasts but has since had a bad batch of monitors and many people have been soured on the brand. I personally bought a Betson Imperial 27" and have been very happy with it but can't say I've seen or compared others. BYOAC forums would be best for more feedback on other brands.

As far as using an arcade monitor for emulators other than mame, it works perfectly for all but the newest consoles/games. Any of the older console emulators (Dreamcast, PS,NES,SNES,Genesis) look great since they're meant to be run on a tv screen anyway. If you want to play newest PC games or work in Windows you'll sacrifice quality since the ArcadeVGA tops out at 800x600. This wasn't a concern whatsoever with me, I'll play those games on a pc like they're meant to be played. I would rather have all of my mame and older console emulator games work perfectly on my cab.

btw, buying a pre-built cab is cheating. :)
