Also, how are you trying to exit mame, escape key or something else?

I've done some more experiementing, and now believe it is related to the LED plugin update. Yesterday I tried disabling and enabling CP Wizard with no change. Same for Joy2Key. No change. I am mapping a button on my GP Wiz controller to ESC in order to support Visual Pinball and other emulators.

However, I just tried disabling the LED plugin and noticed two things:

1. Escaping from a game now allows the control to return to Game Ex.

2. It now allows the CP Wizard menu to show up. Previously with both plugins I couldn't get the CP Wizard menu to come up once in game, only a voice calling out "player one button one", etc which I believe to be from the LED plugin, even though I have speech disabled in that plugin.

Cab you provide any useful info that would actually let me fix the problem?

I would supply more info if I had any idea what or why? You should know me by now, I would have written a dissitation possibly with diagrams if i had a clue :)

All I know is that I have my emus in alphabetical order and they disapear randomly from it?

the ini was 122k before and 115k after the upgrade.

Have included the ini before and after, hope that helps.

I have restored the backup and all is ok, though i will say that last time this happened the backup did not restore anything, it caused gameex to fail on load.

I just thought I would mention it..

Hi TimmyB

Can you please post your PlugInLCD.log. Try enabling it first, running a game, then escaping. Close down GameEx then post the PlugInLCD.log file. The log file is only really helpful when it logs an error so the idea is to try and get the error occuring if there is one and logged in the log file.

I enabled the plugin, launched GameEx, started a game and exited the game. Control didn't return to GameEx, so killed that process. Here is the log.

Okay sorry about this, there was a bug introduced in the last PlugInLCD update. I've sent off the fix to Tom.

For now you can download it from the PlugInLCD thread (all you need to do is copy over PlugInLCD.dll with the new one and that should fix it)

Apologies for the inconvenience!

I downloaded the updated DLL and now it works fine. I still have a problem with LED Plugin + CP Wizard, but since it doesn't have anything to do with this GameEx release, will post in the LED Plugin thread.

In between the last few QUICK updates, I have just noticed that lots of my setup emulators have vanished - AGAIN..

This has happened a few times with updates (non automatic), random ones vanish.

Just thought i would mention it!

Hey Tom is there any chance this could be caused by UpgradeConfig.exe? I noticed it running for quite a while just after I installed a new version of GameEx today. Not sure what the purpose of this program is though. I've never had GameEx screw up my configs.

Flash: Next time you install GameEx try running Process Monitor and see if you can figure out what process is writing to GameEx.ini.

I will..

It is not normally a problem as you can use the updatebackup. The only time it is, is when gameex has had an update that adds new data to the ini. Then if you restore it, it fails :(

wait, what exactly are the new database fields that gameex now supports? i didn't find any new fields in the existing databases

Unfortunately the other fields it could have supported arn't really worth using because there is so much missing data from Moby. The idea of the new databases is to complete them by adding the games that arn't on Moby and there is a lot of them. I think we would all agree that it would be better to have complete databases than new fields that only a handful of games support.

Two new fields that have been added are NoIntro and TOSEC. Which means you can have your ROM set in GoodTool, NoIntro or TOSEC naming conventions and GameEx will still display the correct info for the game. This has the side benefit of helping match EmuMovie videos because they are named by NoIntro->GoodTool->TOSEC.

Another addition is the Biography, each system will have information about the system being emulated.

Right now there are no new databases included in GameEx. Flash is the only one who's finished a database (two of them) but I have yet to get them into mdb format for Tom to release. It's a big job to finish all the databases but we have a group of volunteers that will hopefully eventually get them all done.

I think i have worked it out.

It is to do with the extra data you added to each emu for selecting rom type (good, nointro, tosec). When that version was installed, all was ok. When you then did the update that removed this option, emulator setups disapeared (cannot work out why them ones vanished). Re-applying the backup gameex.ini works and restored them.

I tried again, installed the rom select version, set an emu to one db type, saved and the updated to .41, again the emu's had gone (not all of them though?). I replaced the update ini and all returned to normal.

This has happened before where the update ini would not restored them. I guess at that stage (i belive it was with zip support - can not remember) whatever the update changed in the emu ini's was modified further in the next release (not removed as in this case)..

Well... I hope that helps, at least i can replicate it! :)
