I am in rthe middle of makeing my own mame cab and had it all up and running well and then with out doing anything it wont load up again. It comes up with failed to inialize (0xc000007b) and thats as far as it will go. I think it may be a computer problem because I removed and reintalled it even getting rid of registry enrties and I still have the same issue. Everything else on the PC works fine includeing mame and visual pinbal and I have paid the registration fee so im out of ideas. I use the registration key on my home pc and then againg on the actual machine once I had the software sorted but I wouldnt think that could be the proble???

Thanks for any help.

Jared,

The registration is not the problem... Did you update any drivers? Something is causing it to fail... Did you try using the included default gameex.ini to see if you had inadvertantly messed something up? All you have to do is make a copy of your gameex.ini and rename the backup to gameex.ini.

Anymore insight you can provide the better.

Thanks heaps for your help I retraced my exact steps after my last post, I work in car audio so im working on my project inbetween cars. I did intsall a wierless broadband modem on the machine. I noticed on my home pc it updated itself so was trying to do the same there, its one of them modems that you plug into the USB and it installs itself.

I didnt try using the delfault Gameex.ini, where would I look for that?

I was lovin this front end before it stopped, I have all my music and dvds on the as well as heaps of video clips.

I don't have Gameex in front of me, but I beleive you are looking for defaulti.ini, located in Program Files\Gameex\Config.

From what I can see, the error is a .net framework error on Vista.

If that makes sense to you (are you running Vista?) I would try reinstalling .net Framework 2.0.... http://www.gameex.net/Download/tabid/67/Default.aspx

Sorry didnt even think to mention my OS, im running Tiny XP. I will try replacing the ini file and then framwork. If all else fails I will just strat from scratch, its was a fairly new install anyway and all my media is on a seperate hard drive.

Just had a look and the file I think I want is Gameex.defualt so I just remane that one gameex.ini and I should be back to the starting point.

Thanks heaps for the help.

It was working on TinyXP at some point though, right? A lot of people have had problems with stripped down versions of XP because components that GameEx requires are sometimes removed. Is it possible that you changed themes? I wonder if the default one didn't use a feature that the new one does and that feature is not available. There are other things it could be, but I would definitely suggest using the default ini file. If you can't find it, one way to do it would be to move the GameEx.ini file out of the c:\Program Files\GameEx\CONFIG directory (or delete it if you want) and then reinstall GameEx manually. This will result in the installer creating a new and clean ini for you.

TinyXP I know had soem DB and Jet issue... It was not resolved...

There are multiple version of Tiny Xp... I cannot condone piracy and would strongly reccomend Nlite to make your own..

However it appears Tiny XP platnium edition works with Gameex.

Not to debate the issue, but if you own XP Pro, is it still piracy to download a modified installer since you own the license?

Yes it is,,, Tiny XP is an unattended install that injects a cd key... (99% chance its not yours)

Yes there are ways of changing your product key. But out of the box it is ill-legitamate..

Thats why Id suggest making your own..

Who am I to split hairs... If you own the license you own the license.. Who cares about media..

My Tiny XP is rev 9, it was working well and I didnt change themes or anything like that just installed the modem, I will try install it all again from scratch today if all else fails the I will install the modem again to see if that did it. Tiny XP would be a pirated copy for sure but I own 2 original copies so I think Bill gates has enough of my money until I have to buy Vista.

If I uninstalled Game Ex then went into the C drive directory and deleted the Game Ex folder wouldnt that also remove the gameex.ini file and replace it with a new one, if so done that a few times and it didnt work so I would need to look else where.

Tried again today but nothing worked, I even re installed windows and after that it worked long enough for me to configure it all but the when I went to run it stopped again. once that error pops up I cant access any of the Game Ex items even set up. I did notice that after it stopped Windows Media Player would not load either.

We are making 2 of these machine and the other PC is in its case still running Tiny XP and its working fine but we have not played and MP3's or DVD's on that one yet.

I put Tiny XP on to make it load quicker and run faster but maybe im better of running a full version of windows, I have a legle copy of XP Professional or maybe buy Vista if it will run on my machine. The machine itself is a Celeron 2.6gig with 1gig of ram. I have the hard drives with me and was thinking of doing the setup using my home pc but im not sure if it would cause an issue as I would need to load all the motherboard, sound, video drivers from my home machine then change them for my games system, im running a 20 gig hard drive for programs and a 400gig for media. The home PC is almost the same specs.

Game Ex look like a great thing but sofar I have spent about 15 minutes with a big smile on my face and akmost 3 days trying to make it work again but im sure I will get there. Here is a pic of my project so far, it was going to be cocktail but due to veiwing angles on LCD's it may end up being a cross between a cocktail and an upright with a flip up lid. It will be better for viewing dvds that way anyway. This is my first project but im sure there will be more to follow.

truly dont put vista on this Celeron 2.6gig with 1gig of ram.

Use Nlite make your own... Take out everyting you need add what you do. Keep media player and all Critical stuff.

Might just try the install with my game pc hard drives in my home PC and start from a re format. That will rule out the hard ware at least. What spec PC's are you guys running in your machines?

Some luck at last, just did a complete install on my home PC adding one set of drivers at a time and all looks ok so far except I have the problem I had first time round that when I launch Game Ex it sound like a key is stuck and keeps selecting things. Last time it did this it was the back key and it just made the sound and sat in the main menu but this time its the select key and it launchs the first mame game on the list. Last time it sorted itself out when I first went on line after registering and once the auto updat was complete it never did it again but that didnt solve it this time round. Man I must have the crapest hardware.
