I did some research on here yesterday, but so far nothing's worked to fix my problem.

In a nutshell, I've got MAME, N64, and Genesis all running and looking like we want them to look (we are using dragon / unicorn clipart as our backdrops). However, when I click on show SNES games, GameEx crashes and dies.

I have:

1) downloaded a new version of DirectX

2) reloaded GameEx (current version)

3) turned advanced graphics off

4) used a different picture for background

5) shut down and rebooted the computer

6) made changes to config file of SNES that I read about on here last night

and it still crashes like a firey ball into the sea. Dost anybody have any idea what the heck I'm doing wrong?

Many thanks ahead of time - I'll keep looking on here as well :)

EDIT: Well, I thought I had it fixed, but I turned out to be wrong - still not working.

Need more info, this could be any number of things. Post your log file, it's in your gameex folder. That'll help us troubleshoot.

Which emulator do you use: SNES9x or ZSNES? I have ZSNES running perfectly under gameex.

Well, after much tinkering in the advanced configuration file, I finally got it fixed for good this time. It's sort of a combination of things, mainly my forgetting to save what changes I made (I think) at the time...at least that's the way it was acting.

If for some reason I experience trouble again, I will post the log here - should have done that at first, but it really only seemed to be telling me that I needed the new version of DirectX. What the problem actually seemed to be was I had the advanced config file switch on, and the MapKeys Off (I think - or maybe Map Keys was on as well), and it just didn't like both.

I am using ZSNES and up until tonight had not had a problem....which is why I got rather frustrated. Usually I can look at the log and sort of tell where the problem is, but like I said it just didn't seem to be telling me anything useful.

Biggest thing is that I know I can get it to stay fixed if I just tinker with the settings a bit....it wasn't anything too major, apparently. Sorry to have bothered you all! :)

Sounds like you're not too sure of how (or if) you fixed it. MapKeys probably wasn't the culprit. If DirectX is up to date then DirectX errors are usually caused by the theme. If you choose a theme that has elements outside of the displayable area it can choke. Usually this is caused by selecting a theme that has a resolution your monitor can't display but I've had it happen on some custom themes where I've accidentally positioned elements out of bounds. If you still have problems, manually type in a different default theme in your GameEx config before starting it up.

That's why the log is good to post right away, most people on here would mention a theme issue if they saw it was a DirectX error. ;)
