hey guys,

my arcade will be shown on a games convention (well a local small one) and i'm trying to make my system look as good as i can.

i still have two strange minor problems which isn't a great deal but could make the machine unusable in the wrong moment...

1. Sometimes when I start up the machine and gameex comes up and I choose a mame game, the controls don't work. I just tried to reproduce the issue but then it worked again. this is really pretty weird, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. it seems to be a mame specific problem since no other emulator seems to have control problems at startup. I already tried a couple of things:

Set up mame to a different location, take out the startup video before gameex starts... none of it seems to have solved the problem. the mame menus and evrything works... After the machine has been into attract mode the controls work as well. Is there a way of forcing mame to use my control settings or what could be the issue? any idea?

2. I sometimes get sound issues in donkey kong. The sound is stuttering and the game is generally slower. again, this issue only appears from time to time. i had it today after playing some other mame games fine. after donkey kong stutters i fired up street fighter and the sound and everything was still ok! should i disable triplebuffer?

the complicated part is that i can't reproduce these errors at will which makes it very hard to solve it. any idea from you guys would be helpful

Can you give us more info about your controls? Do you use an IPAC? Is the controls burnt in the firmware or are you mapping them upon start up? Is ANY program mapping controls on bootup? Perhaps the program isnt launching FAST enough.

Yes disable tripplebuffer.

i'm using an x-arcade and my buttons are mapped directly in mame, i don't use a map file. the only mapping going on is from a little ahk script that remaps pushing button c and button 5 at the same time to exit an emulator by mapping esc to these buttons. no other mapping configuration was done. I use a quite powerful 2x2,4 ghz proc. will disabling triplebuffer cause any slowdown in emulation?

Disabling Tiple buffer enhances performance, not slowdown.
