Got the tutorial. Great job! I am ready to get started on a DB. I sent headkaze a PM.

Lets have some more volunteers!

More people on the job would be great..

Sorry but I will only be accepting GameEx regulars to join in on the project :( The main reason for this is I don't want the database software I've written to go walkies.

Sadly, you may have a little bit of a wait, there is only the 2 of us working on the DB's at the moment (oh, and Tempest with his huge Fairchild Channel F db :) ). But, it will get there at some point, possible BBC model a/b first though.

Ouch. May this post be the start of the road to erasing my lurker status.

Sorry about that, but it is HK's little baby (one of many - busy boy) and his rules rule! (? bad English)

Anywayup,

Thanks to HK, I decided to re-visit my love of the point and click (kick) adventure via the wonders of ScummVM and HK's loader - what joy.

The only thing missing was a DB to give me the info, years, publishers, etc. So, after many days of toil and pain (well 2 hours :) ), I present a db for the current ScummVM.

With this you can omit the map file in HK's loader and turn on the Database Naming. This will name all games correctly for you "Simon the Sorcerer II: The Lion, the Wizard and the Wardrobe", "Maniac Mansion: Day of the Tentacle" (look at the box), etc.

HK: If you want the XML, i can post it to the usual place.

TOM: It could be me, but I cannot get "History" to work on any DB?

EDIT: Slight update to "Monkey Island"

Sweet, thanks Flash smile.gif

Yes if you could upload the xml to the usual place that would be great cheers.

Also just wanted to mention I'll be doing an update of GameEx DBM soon with all of Flash's data included to date. Also added a cool search feature that lets you choose a game from a list of results. This is a huuuge time saver for people who want to help complete databases.

Also with Flash's great work recently we now have most of the databases filled out. So most of them only need the missing games added now.

I think I'll change the password on the GameEx DBM download so if you are still interesting in helping out please let me know here and I'll give you the new password.

Please try it for me and let me know what ya think (use db naming, no map)

Please can you strike "Colecovision" off on the start page for me... It is done.... (and add and strike scumm wink.gif )

Nearly finished Intellivision and working through ALL 19,000 c64 (again), nearly done the numbers huh.gif

All the best ol' bean....

PS: XML is upped.

Thanks guys. Im adding it to the database downloads now.

Im not sure what you mean by history?

The "History" tab on v3-4 themes that gives info on the system you are looking at.. Not sure where mine has gone. Looked in the Fridge and under my keyboard, all i found was half a soft onion and a chewed matchstick in the shape of russel brand.

(you knew I would have to let my serious face slip for a bit - god, im trying to behave, really i am!)

You mean Biography? It should show the menu option, but wont if theres no data, like in your Scumm dbase.

yeah - Biography, thats the little bugger i was talking about.

I know Scumm wont have one as I need HK to update the sysinfo.xml (i did do it for FPinball, but not Scumm as we may all get adrift on the versions)

Some are missing on mine - Intellivision, Lynx and others? Hmmm. Will have to check the DB's as they may have not been updated from the various versions of the Editor, or may be missing in Sysinfo.xml... I checked a couple of others and the Biography was present, so it is not GameEx. Hmmm..

HK, should I add the histor... Biography or do you wanna (wiki has a good one on the Scumm engine ;) )?

Posted

No problems I'll add the Biography :) Totally forgot about that, good thing I haven't released the new version of DBM yet.

I just checked the Future Pinball biography in the mdb and all it has is "Evolution from outdoor games". Flash you post your Future Pinball bio so I can add it here?

Thanks PimpDaddyStu, bkenobi, shaunopp, Tempest and Brian. I'll be PMing you all with instructions when I've got everything ready.

I'm thinking once you figure out how easy it is to scrape and update a database, I'm sure you won't mind keeping them up-to-date too. Anyway I'll give you intructions on how in a PM soon.

Stay tuned and thanks again for all the responses!

I was just reading the early posts (june 15th) while working on a damn DB (Intellivision) and just wondered "what happened"...?

I was not even in the original list and yet I appear to be the only one active in this DB business :(

Still.... You have to laugh really, don't ya?

Your doing a great job Flash! I think my work on the database software helps quite alot, so your not really the only one in this DB business ;)

Anyway I just updated GameEx DBM again this time I added a feature to convert mdb's back to xml's. Should come in handy.

Flash: I sent you a PM with the new download details. I've included all your xml's I've got to date. Let me know if anything is missing.

I meant that it appears that I am the only one making them, you silly bugger you! Your editor is a fantastic help - you know that (though i could try to swell your head a bit if you wish  )

The mdb to xml could come in really handy... ;)

Here is a full Neo Geo DB and a small update to the Saturn one.

The system XML has limited biography on the ScummVM engine, refering only to the emulator??? This has not been the case with the other emulators? These have all refered to the machines themselves. Im sure it would have been better to have used the biography for the actual Scumm engine and the various versions, and not ScummVM.

The same goes for Future pinball. A biography of the evolution of pinball tables surely would have been more relevent and a damn site more interesting? The same also goes for VP.

(these were what I had posted earlier)

I am the demon king of the DB's and with the power vested in me and the power of Greyskull, I will smite you down..... ;)

Just didn't want you to feel alone in this thing :) We could do with some help on creating the databases though!

Do you think it was a bad decision to go with the emulator descriptions eh? Yeah I guess so.. I just thought for the pinball emulators it's not so much about pinball but the emulator. Like Future Pinball is not emulating pinball machines and Visual Pinball emulates some tables while VPinMame emulates the ROMs.

I thought it was more about the system that the game was running on. With the Pinballs (and Scumm) it is really about what you are playing, not the platform or software. Even FP runs tables from bagatelle up to present, and in a way, more so with FP. You can (with the DB) go through the years these tables were released and the Biography helps to put this all into prospective. From the early parlor styled games, to the gambling ban (and you can now look at the games that were used for gambling), to the launch of multiball and solid state. It is just that the idea of running all these games should be about the history (the actuall games) not the present (the emulator/simulation they run on)...

Well... I do have to try and make my point, Seeing it is just you and me - i dont want to be a silent partner... laugh.giftongue.giflaugh.gif

RE:Select none... Yes this is great, but when you are going throug 50 of them, the ability to just double click for the result would speed things up a lot. At the moment, i have to click search, locate the game in the results, select none, then click "Description" then go back to the result list to locate the game and double click. If it could remember (and window size) I would only need to double click on the game.

Phew!!!

PS. Can you add a STRIKE to neo-geo CD on the start page please. It is complete and also added a few games that have been added to CD format.

Flash: Okay I made a compromise, I added the pinball/scumm info and kept one paragraph about the emulator. Also I updated GameEx DBM to save the search options, and also it will now save the window size/state for most windows ;)

The Allgame data thing a my ding does not work now.

If i select Description on a game that i have checked has one on allgame, the description is not updated in the editor (or any other data :( )

:( x2
