Hey guys,

I have tons of MAME games from the 80s and 90s on my machine now, almost too many. There are so many I've never heard of, I was curious if there was a good resource where Mame games are rated. Or just some way of figuring out which games are generally considered good (besides the obvious pac-man, donkey kong, etc.)

Also, is there any way to see global statistics of the games the GameEx community is playing? Since GameEx keeps statistics on how many times and how long we each play different games, is it possible to conglomerate that info into global statistics info? Wouldn't it be cool to see what games we are all playing the most, and what games are put in the favorites list the most often?

Look in the Setup Wizard, under "Advanced MAME Settings" - on page 3, there's a series of categories. The one you're after is "Show MAME Golden Era". If you want to prune the list of games, just turn on/off those categories.

I'm dead against collecting statistics, because the world would know what an utter tragic I am at my favourite games, "Terra Cresta", "Image Fight", etc.

Thanks. I'm not sure I can prune it based on categories. I like the golden era (80s) games, just not all of them. Does anyone know of a good list of the best 25-50 arcade games of each decade?

Thanks

How about the MAWS database? Tons of info for every mame game along with ratings and a Hall of Fame section.

I'm not sure after you turn on the Golden Era section in GameEx if you can manually delete what you don't want. I'm sure there's a file in the GameEx directory somewhere that populates what those Golden Era Games are by default, you may be able to mod that instead of manually deleting.

It would be easier if you could tell us what kind of games you already love. I'm a shooter and adventure fan myself mostly, so my top games include Rygar, Black Tiger, Flying Shark, Twin Cobra, ESP Ra. De. , Do Donpachi, Raiden Fighters 2, Solomon's Key and Metal Slug 1/X/3.

1. Tempest ;)

2. Loderunner (Any one suprised I had a #2?)

3. Mr. Do!

Those are probably the three I play the most....

Oooh. Thanks. This is what I was thinking of. And of course after poking around more, I figured out that like almost every other feature I can think of, GameEx already supports it.

Under Advanced MAME Mame Settings (4) there is an option to "Show Live Online Lists" where GameEx will create 2 lists, 1 of the MAWS Hall of Fame, and 1 of the most played by the GameEx community as collected by Game Extender. And the lists are dynamically updated. Pretty damn awesome.

I also found this thread on the forum that with an .ini file that categorizes games based on how well they work and how fun they are to play. I'm not sure exactly how to utilize it with GameEx, but I know it's possible, because Tom posted a list specifically for GameEx. I'll study it and try to figure it out.

Thanks for listing your favorite games. I'm pretty open to any style, just trying to avoid the duds.

Hey what abuot Speedball II:Brutal Deluxe for the Amiga! I loved that game! Icecream....Icecream. What the hell kind of a taunt is Icecream!? I don't know but it cracks me up and it was a great game!

[OT] The Amiga 500 was one of my first computers and I went 'crazy' and bought the 20MB (that right kids, MB, NOT GB) hard drive that attached to the side of it. I remember thinking it was overkill and what would I ever use a whole 20Mb of storage for. Good times. :)
