I see the cd art... You need a jpg matching the folder name.

ID3 should olny carry text... eg song info album info etc...

Latest version of GameEx will also download album art, assuming the album and artist are tagged and it can find a match. ID Tags themeselves only contain text as Brian said.

Take a real cd.. Rip it using windows media player. Before you click the RIP button tell it to get album info.

It should pull the art. Notice in the folder you will see a jpg..

You MAY need to turn on show hidden files and folders to see the ART.

Well like I said.. Rip one in media player. I know it works... See how / where it puts the JPG.. Look at the name in conjunction with the album etc..

Make your other the same and it SHOULD work.

And yes you do like to make things harder than they need to be ;)

hehehe

Good luck tho..... really..

cheers

If you already have images embedded in your music files (like I do) you can do batch extractions of the images with the program

SoftPointer Tag and Rename

The program is Shareware, but you just highlight the Root folder where you have your music and click the Tools --> Extract Folder.jpg

It will create a folder.jpg into each folder, and Game Ex will use that for cover/album art.

Just in case you didn't want to do it one by one.

hi bookbagninja

yes all my images are embedded into my music mp3`s thanx for the tip on the tag tool

but how come GameEx can not read the embedded art or is there a way you can set this up to do so!

prob is i have embedded art to each mp3 i have. its like over 3500 lol

be ok if i have all albums but a lot of my mp3`s are just dir with say 900 mp3 in

maybe tom can look into this.. it be a good addon to have in GameEx if you can not allready do it!

I also ripped my entire CD collection and then used MediaMonkey to import album art from Amazon and embedded it into the mp3 tag. I find embedding the album art easier to manage. I don't need to bother with all of those messy hidden .jpg files and all the music files can be in a flat folder structure and copying mp3 to music devices the album art goes with it automatically.

Windows Media Player, iTunes etc. displays the embedded album art. Is there any chance of getting GameEx to do the same?

Thanks!

I have both, the album art embedded into the Mp3 files and the JPEG file (it's not hidden though) due to the fact that not all mp3 players (on PC or portable) accurately read embedded tags in particular those with Unicode characters such as Japanese, Hindi and Aramaic. I've likewise found that both a clean folder structure (i.e. D:\Music\Artist\Album\Track Number - Track Name) including the .jpg increases the compatibility, readability and it looks nice. That way, until the feature appears, I'm not stuck with missing tags or album art. Also, if you use Tag and Rename, the resulting JPEG file isn't hidden.

It isn't recommend that you keep ALL your mp3s in a single folder, even if its just singles, since it does prevents things like Game Ex downloading appropriate album art. Your Operating System takes less time to read a directory containing ten folders then does for it to read a single folder containing 1,000 mp3s (people with lots of ROMs in their setups probably know what I'm talking about). Many of the programs (if they don't check for embedded album art) will want to look for the album art in a singular folder that contains only the music files associated with the album/single.

Oh, also making sure you ONLY have the Mp3 tag version ID3V2(2.3 or 2.4) and NOT ID3V1 tags makes life a lot easier to.. because I've notice iTunes, Windows Media Player, Winamp and GameEx might read half of the tag in ID3V2 and half of the tag in ID3V1, even with the option to skip the ID3V1 tags enabled. GameEx may only read the text from the ID3V2 tags, but it will read the CORRECT ones and not the truncated ones from IDV1 tags. This is not a flaw in the program but to the way tags are sometimes embedded into the files themselves.

One last thing, having the JPEG in the folder, means that you aren't stuck to ONE type of music file. You'll get album art for OGG, FLAC, and WAV files even if you can't embed them into the files themselves. Classical music is a great example of a type of music that degrades greatly when compressed to Mp3.

The last benefit of doing so, is that when you become a registered user of GameEx, you get to browse by FOLDER which is AWESOME, and having the JPEG in the folder, it speeds the loading of the album art since it doesn't have to get it from inside the file. True its only milliseconds, but that adds up =b
