2nd June, 2008 - GameEx 9.31

This is a major release, and features a new user interface also known as version 3 themes

The aim is to improve on the initial GameEx interface, offering things such as album and track display, two artwork previews at the same time, and a horizontal menu

The user interface will be expanded in the future to allow positional skinning and image lists

Most of the default themes have been changed, but the original version 1 themes are still available

You can see a video of what this all looks like here

Ben Baker AKA Headkaze has also been working extremely hard and this release contains his brand new ultrastick 360 plugin along with an update to the LCD/LED plugin now supporting BetaBrite USB

This release fixes horrizontal DVD menu navigation, along with Daphne games not being able to be added to favorites

When GameEx is windowed, the position and moving has been improved on non Vista Systems

Awesome Tom. Will be one of the first to get. Thanks!

Tom,

You never cease to amaze me! Mind you, I am still amazed by zip fasteners, how Savlon knows it is the place you are rubbing it that hurts and not the fingers you are rubbing with, and also - I am still amazed at how Coat Hangers got there name, and why the wife puts up with me :)

Time to start working on that Leather and studwork theme (steampunk-ish) that i have been toying with.. (will have to do the positoning manually at the mo - no editor?).

Have a drink on me for ALL your hard work! :) (or 10)

tom how to translate this menu ?

"change view" - "back" - "Home" - "Exit".

I don't see them in languages.ini

Nice! Impressing that it got finished so quick after announcing it!

how do I use the second picture in the game list?

Yes lots of Kudos to Ben.

Will v2 themes still work?

Having a play at the moment! V2 themes work the same as they did.

Sadly. From what i can find out with a big of ini editing. Nothing is positional at the moment. I.e. The snaps cannot be moved, nor menus. Not a problem for the start of theme creation though :) At least I know exactly where the option bar is located!

I'm in talks with Tom about updating the Theme Editor :)

EDIT: Just had a play, so far it looks fantastic! Just one thing I would love implemented is to have the search menu above games lists so you can search a single game list as well. But really great work Tom!

Excellent - that is good news..

Really like the new clutter-free theme.ini, 4 lines :) :)

Looking forward to having a proper play in an HD resolution when i get home, not the same on a sony ultraportable!

I am just so easily pleased! wish the wife was also.. God, she'll be moaning tonight! <ulp>. Poor Tom, his ears must bleed everytime he does an update :) Mine certainly do!

Playing with V3

This is an early shot of an idea i have. Need to be able to move game list text, option bar text, snaps, images, and other elements. At the moment there is no way to do this. Working on this as a HD theme.

TOM: is there anyway to stop elements like startbak, bak, mamebak, etc from doing the wibbly-wobbly thing??

Any comments always welcome!

Thanks a lot, had a look in Wy ini and i had put AniBak=False. Silly Billy. I always have problexs with my M's. Veny thanks.

Now, when we can move the elements about, that will be fun... In the meantime I will just play with Photoshop :)

Nope - just tried it, the background to the main pages expands and contracts still (wibbly-wobbly :) ) It is fine with custom emulator backgrounds though?

EDIT: Just looked at ini again and found i had a line preceding the other saying Anibak=TRUE. Changed that and works a treat now! Thanks

EDITEDIT: Bugger, just realised i have hijacked one of Toms posts... Oh Dear! SORRY TOM....

AniBak is right, I was the one that spelt it wrong!

It works a treat now, thanks again for your help. I'm glad you thought of it as i had never seen gameex do that so had no idea what i was looking for!

Now the big question is, as V3 themes are now the defaults at the moment, is it an improvement over the old default V1 themes. I hope so, but would like some feedback of course on how I could improve it. Ive got a few minor niggles with the menu navigation focus, but overall its supposed to be better than how it was.

And yes I do plan to implement some "positional" skinning, hopefully with help from Ben, this will be known as V4 themes, and also all existing themes will still work.
