@Firebrand:

I have plans for you actually. If these M logos go well, I was gonna whip up some icons for your new theme. You can even pick the games! :)

But first things first. I'm gonna go play around on EmuMovies and see what I got myself into. :)

Sweet!! Thanks man!

I treble using Tempest for Vector logo (or spinner)

Tempest is a great game, though perhaps Asteroids is a more defining moment in vector game history?

I agree...if your color blind! Asteroids came out in 1979, Tempest in 1980, I'd gladly wait a year, to be able to play Tempest in color.

I'm sure there are people who remember their first black and white TV too...But who really cares about them? :P

Sorry HK :( , I didn't mean to derail again, but when somebody thinks Asteriods is a "defining moment in vector game history", I have to object!

I think Adultery is going to hit a hurtle with using Premiere and the HQ set from EmuMovies. The problem is Premiere doesn't like the XVid format, so the videos will probably need to be converted to another format (like DV or uncompressed AVI) beforehand using something like VirtualDub.

Tempest what are you talking about your on topic! Here are a list of the M logo categories so if anyone else has suggestions what videos to use for each one post them here. I believe Adultery wants 3 videos for each category.

4 Player Games, Adult XXX, Atari, Breakout Games, Casino Games, Capcom, Fighting Games, Golden Era, Horizontal, Lightgun, Live, Live GameEx Favorites, Live, MAWS Hall of Fame, Mame, All Games, Multiplayer, Maze & Puzzle Games, Maze Games, Midway, Minigames, Various Games, Neo-Geo, Not Played, Originals, Pinball Games, Platformer, Puzzle Games, Racing Games, Rhythm Games, Sega Model 2, Shooting Games, Spinner, Sports Games, Tabletop Games, Trackball, Trivia Games,

Update List, Vector, Vertical, Zinc

Okay, I got my first icon going and it's working (and looking) great! Adobe Premiere is having no trouble with the AVIs on the EmuMovies site (which is a good thing). However, I've hit a wall here.

Just a couple issues... Firstly, I need to do something with the absolute black as GameEx doesn't take it out. Actually, this isn't a bad thing considering some movies have AB in them. I'll think of something to cover that up.

Second, HK: How exactly would you suggest I change the rez on these AVIs? Adobe Premiere only seems to allow me to save the AVI as NTSC (740x480) and I suppose I've never needed to use a lower rez since I don't usually do this sort of thing with Premiere. Maybe Premiere does this on its own and I missed a setting? Or most likely, maybe I need a converter of some sort.

Third: Each category will have 3+ games if I use Circo's EmuMovies sets b/c his clips are short. When I get into this deeper, I'll be using Premiere to capture video from the video card instead so I don't keep losing action frames due to the limited space the 'M' provides. That, or I could probably scale down resolutions to fit the area I'm using. What do you think?

Tom hasn't said anything about color keying black out yet. I think the videos will have to have their brightness adjusted if black is color keyed out.

When you create a project in Premiere you can either select the default video sizes and formats, or select the Custom tab so you can specify the size. Create them in 640x480.

You can use VirtualDub later to resize them and convert them to XVid. In VirtualDub just open the video, select Video->Filters and add a resize filter. Change the size to whatever. In Video->Compression select XVid. Save the configuration for later, then just File->Save as AVI.

I did a little demo of what it might look like, although I'm not totally sold on the 3d spinning text. Notice I made the video brightness about 50% so it won't get color keyed out.

Sorry for not chiming in earlier. I dont have a problem with doing the color keying. Still thinking about the best way to do it though.

HK, by the way I took your advice I am currently watching Juno.

Oh bugger off!

Asteroids was the first and largest commertial success of a vector game. I have been working in the arcade industry for FAR too many years, and still do. All i was saying is that Asteroids defines the original vector game. I am not suggesting that Tempest is not a fantastic game, i prefer it to asteroids personally, but if you shew a picture of Asteroids and Tempest, more people would have fond memories of the first time they saw asteroids.

You and your bloo*y Tempest :)

Wow, looks like there's a ton of categories. Adultery, are you really using 3 videos for each? I'm impressed. It's going to be daunting, but it should look really sweet.

I said I wasn't really picky, but when I saw a few of the categories, I changed my mind

- Fighting: Killer Instinct (naturally ;) ), Mortal Kombat 2, and Super Street Fighter 2

- Capcom: SSF2, Strider 2, Ghouls n' Ghosts

- Vector: Tempest, and Asteroids

- Neo Geo: King of Fighters (a more recent one), Metal Slug

- 2/4 Player: Aliens vs Predator, Cadillacs and Dinosaurs, X-Men

These are just my votes, take 'em or leave them. Either way, I'm sure your new project will rock everyone's MAME machines.

Actually, I think Tempest, Star Wars, Asteroids, and Battle Zone would be the best ones to consider. I don't know how they would look in a small window though...
