Hi, I have a problem with ROMs not showing because they are categorized by me manually in multiple folder trees. How can I make ROMs show up while keeping my folder structures?

This was what I could find on the issue:

FAQ

"Q: My Emulators ROMS don't show. I just get no Games found, but they are there.

A: Make sure the RomFilter setting is correct for your ROM file extensions. e.g *.zip if your ROMS are zip files. *.rom;*.bin if all your ROM files either have an extension of ROM or BIN. Also, try disabling 'ROMS in folders'"

Try disabling ROMs in folders.. well, how do I do that?

Doc

"UNC paths are not supported."

UNC = ???

Another question, where do I find and edit the game infos and categorizations already in the GameEx program?

Rom is Folders is not supported.... meaning "I have a problem with ROMs not showing because they are categorized by me manually in multiple folder trees" Sorry...

There is in entry for that in the Advanced configuration app. Located in the emulator setup. it just doesn't work.

You can with a map file.. But its alot of work if you have a large assortment of Rom's Ill post a link to that thread in a few.

As far as the game info stuff you will find that info in the emulator's MDB (you will find those in the install directory.) And can be edited with MS acess and other freeware editors.

You could also put all your roms in one folder for a quick fix.

I see, thanks for the reply. The mapping does seem like a bit of effort so I'll go with editing those data files, since I already stumbled upon them and they seem like a better route to go anyway.

I had my folders set up like this: E:\Spel\Genesis or Mega Drive\Genesis or Mega Drive Roms\1p (346)\adventure (38)

It's been a lot of work over the years of using emus so I'm reluctant to trash it :)

But after looking at those gamedata tables I have another question;

In these files there are categories that don't seem to be displayed or used in GameEx, such as "Perspective" or "Mobyratings". Is there a simple way to make the program display these too?

There is another thread that's currently discussing the Moby Ratings. Basically, the answer is no. There is currently no way to filter based on that info and there is apparently no plan to add that capability ATM.

A bit strange when there is so much data already in there not to use it? It seems like you could easily add it with the code from other categories but Im no programmer.

Not that I think mobyratings are of any interest, but I would like to rate the games myself. You could have star or mushroom icons to display them.. personalize the lists a bit more :)

It's not always a matter of just adding something. Tom likes to keep everything clean and adding new features in a quick and dirty way is counterproductive. I like the idea of making an advanced feature for adding custom SQL code, but I don't know how Tom could make it clean.

They would be optional features, of course.

I had to do a lot of cleaning just on the front page initially so I don't think that's a very good point.

For me, I'd be happy if the game info text was just editable in GameEx like when I'm writing this message. Would save a lot of hassle and I could input whatever I want.
