what if, when you click play this game, gameex first displays the control panel for a few seconds, then loads the mame game. would this be possible?

frank

Unfortunately not possible without messing with the Mame source. Mame takes exclusive control of the hardware in fullscreen mode so you can't just pop a window up in front of it.

This will be implemented as a search (not exactly as you ask), and now with have list caching it is on the way and planned.
Just to add to to this. I hope the search feature you implement will work on multimedia too. I would like to have the ability to add the search results to the queue\playlist.

Two minor thoughts...

1) While listening to the jukebox, sometimes I go away for awhile, come back and the page of the playlist has rolled a few screens....then I have to try and hunt for the little volume icon next to where the track is playing. Is it possible to have the screen auto-roll to the next page when the playlist does? Either that or a button "Show current song"?

2) With GameExtender, sometimes, I keep it running, but hit the windows key to jump out of GameEx to check e-mail really quickly...and end up broadcasting my e-mail, etc. to the world. I know it's hard to read at that resolution, but can there be an option to only publish GameExtender to the world when GameEx is the primary application running?

3) I have a dual-monitor setup and when I run MAME, there is an option to show the games on both monitors, but GameEx doesn't have this...so in jukebox mode, I have a monitor that shows the right side of my desktop....or when I exit out of a MAME game, I go from both screens being used (it's great for each pair of players in a four-player game to have their own monitor) to only one being used. Maybe an option to broadcast GameEx to both monitors?

Thanks.

Hi, no.2 will be in the next release.

Cheers.

Tom

Yes, my plan is to search everything (if configured to do so which will be optional), and list the results by type, so jukebox, videos, mame or emulator system.

I agree, this would probably work a lot better. This should be the method for playing a random game too. Something I've noticed though, is that chosing a random game actually seems to be more random, and isn't always a MAME game first.

Interesting side note; I've noticed my screensaver doesn't work anymore. Whether I specifcally launch it, or let it sit and load on its own. I don't know what it could be. I can launch games manually through GameEx and they work fine. But in attract mode, the game launches and then craps out at it's decompressing stage and falls back to GameEx. I've got a theory though. I recently enabled the Windows MCE screensaver "Aquarium". Does this cause complications with GameEx or the attract mode? If so, I'll just turn it off again. But shouldn't there be a way to override the Windows SS when you're using GameEx's?

Please post the log with the screensaver not working.

Feature Request : Caller Id

Pop up or screen overlay or name number just for a few seconds.

If anyone else knows of a good that may work with GameEx let me know.

Lol, I just mentioned that to Tom the other day. Trust me things like this will be very easy to add to GameEx soon. Here's a hint: GameEx Plugin's ;)

Okay not sure if this has ever been mentioned...but now that I'm currently running a non registered version of GameEX, this idea gets driven home hardcore. ;)

Basic idea is to add a test button to any given field in the GameEx control pannel per Emu...or other area's that may also apply.

Mainly this is for testing of commandline's, so one doesn't need to fire up GameEx to see if things work or not.

So pressing the test button would have the control pannel find the first available ROM, and use it when loading the Emu.

Now this would lessen the value I feel of the nag screen delay...but by the same token it may also draw in more users that may get turned off GameEx when just starting to learn the in's and out's of the application.

Of course it could also be only made available to registered users...tho I think it maybe better off as always available.

Hi Tom,

I asked this earlier, but didn't get a response. Might have gotten missed with the vast update that you have been doing as of late. :)

Anyway, I was wondering if you could add the ability in custominput.ini to put in multiple scan codes for each action.

For example:

"Select=2, 42"

This would be helpful for me because I have an ergonomic setup for what key does what, but my wife would like to use the buttons more intuitively, i.e. the start button being select. If multiple scan codes were enabled, then we could both use it how we want.

Thanks!

i got a feature request

i always have to hack the ,exe file of most emulators to change the save state keys and escape keys ect,

would it be possible to have a config on each emulator to change the keyboard layout for example

on mastersystem to save it you need to press f4

but my save button is f5

so couldnt we change the layout so when the mastersystem emu is running it makes the f5 button readout as

f4 therefor it saves ,

this could help a lot as most emulators have different keys to save and load and some emulators when u press escape

it changes the screen from fullscreen to windowed

so i hack the ,exe and change the windowed button to something i dont use,,

i think this needs to be looked at

thanx gerble1000

p,s

and i am afraid of updating my emulators to new ones because i will have to hack the ,exe again

You can use AutoHotKey for this, just create a script that remaps your joystick to the emulator. No need to hack it. And it's fairly easy. But I'm all for that feature as well.

true

i will have to check it out

but my save button and load button are a keyboard hack so they actually press f5 and f7 ect,

so im not sure if this program would do that,,,

I think the main reason that you get to the info screen is so people can add/remove the last played game from Favorites. I guess there's an option that skips the info screen, but you only want to see it before playing the game?

Emph

I would actually like it if there was an option so that you didn't get that screen at all. Meaning that when you selected a game from the Mame list and pushed the button, you get the game, nothing else. Then when you push escape, you get the list again.

What do you know, that does exist. I should have known better than to question Tom. I found the option and removed it and now I am good to go! Thanks for the help.

Here's my small request... I'd like to be able to jump straight to the bottom of any list by pressing UP when at the top of a list... so that say for example the game you want starts with W, when you go into the rom list you'll be at the top of A so you just press UP to jump to the bottom of Z and start scrolling up through Z then Y, X and then you'll be at W rather than having to go down through the whole alphabet

Thanks for all your hard work

If you want to scan the W's, just press W on your keyboard. It'll jump to the first game that begiuns with that letter.

That's no good in a mame cabinet with no keyboard access... I know there is the page key that I could assign to a button but I just thought this would be an easy feature to add

First, I just have to say GameEx is awesome! Now for my feature request. :)

7zip support is a wonderful feature to have, and necessary with large libraries. Unfortunately, the time it takes to decompress goes up proportionately to the source file size, and in some cases this can take a significant chunk of time (30-60 seconds). A 50MB source file decompressed to a temp folder may wind up at 250+ MB. If you're accessing files over the network, that results in a lot of time lost waiting on the file list to show up, especially when only one file (if that) is ultimately going to be launched.

I would love to see 7zip support integrated via the DLL they provide so that the file list can be accessed natively (without the need to decompress the entire contents). Then, once a file is selected for launch, only that file would actually need to be extracted. This would improve launch performance significantly, especially in a networked environment.

If this would take too much time to implement right now, it would be nice if a small optimization could be made so that the 7zip file was only extracted when you first open the set. I notice when I close down an emulator and return to GameEx, it seems to extract the entire 7zip again even though it just did it before launching the title. This means I have to wait on launch and on exit, which degrades the experience.

Overall though, stupendous work!
