multiple control mapping for a single emulator

Alright - first the goal:

I am in the process of installing ps2 controller ports on the front side of my cab, which in turn are connected to a usb adapter.

I know that mame allows multiple mapping for the same command, ie: the keyboard up arrow and a joystick up can both be mapped to do the same thing. This allows me to plug in a gamepad and play with it or just play using my standard joystick.

I'd like to have this same option in all my emulators, although many of them don't seem to support this multiple controller mapping. Some don't even seem to support external gamepads, or if they do they only seem to recognize input from the analogue stick and not the hat switch.

So my first question is, before I go trying to reinvent the wheel - is there a program that handles this sort of issue. ie: something that allows forced mapping in an emulator or something like that.

If not, then one solution that occurred to me is to map an emulator to my gamepad as best as i can, and then copy the config file/controller.ini/whatever-its-stored-too to a different place. Then find a way to check if a joypad is present when starting, and have that config copied into the emulator folder if it is. I could use the run before/run after commands in gameex to do this once I found a way to determine whether or not a gamepad is present.

Hopefully a few people understand what i'm going for, and maybe a solution or brilliant idea will come of it =)

Use Xpadder to remap your joystick buttons to keystrokes... Then define all your emus using the same keystorkes..

This way they will all share one config.

To be honest, I got nuthin'...

I was thinking of throwing in a quote from a DJInfinty thread, but I already used that one.

I could cut and paste the standard "Wow, your wonderful" but that's been (over) done today.

I also know that no matter what I say, you have the power to edit your post, and even change where I quoted you, so I'm actually a little head shy....

Come to think of it you could change this to what ever you want, so I'm really a little more terrified really than head shy... :(

Well, first of all my monkey on a dog is much faster than a jalapeño - so it doesn't require the extra protection. Secondly, there are no zombies with strange fascinations for dos launchers here, so I'm safe.

Well, what's strange about that comment is that I actually see your point! ;)

I also hadn't noticed that it was a dog, I thought it was a horse, so it even makes more sense!

Exo,

I want you to know that I received your message, and I would like to apologize. Sometimes I don't use my common sense...

Tempest

I edited my posts....You may wish to edit yours where you quoted me.

Comon guys we don't mind a bit of fluff on the boards, but sometimes it's getting a bit too OT. If you want to be OT start a new thread and keep it in one place. Thanks :)
