I am having a problem with a few games where the picture is distorted a bit. So I went into MameUI and changed the resolution from 288X240 to 296X240. I opened the game up from MameUI and presto it looks perfect! The problem is that it is still distorted when I open the game in gameex. Where are screen resolution settings saved at for Mameui and why is Gameex not seeing the change?

I am also seeing the screen tearing on horizontally scrolling games. I have triple buffering checked, but it is still having the tearing effect. Any other suggestions?

Thanks!!!

when you run mame from gameex it sends it own command line switches.

go into the gameex advanced config > advanced mame setting and you wiill see them.

In the mame included docs you will find the command switch equivlent of those check boxes you use in the gui.

Thanks Brian, I will give it a try. In the past, it has always worked to go into the MAME GUI interface, change the resolution and Gameex then worked too. I am just trying to understand better how this works, on these few particular games, is there a Gameex setting that is overriding the Mameui settings? Thanks for your quick reply, I am going out to the garage right now to start playing with the advance config menu.

I just looked at the advanced Mame options and I see what you are referencing, however, there must be a way to set different resolutions for each game, just like there is in MameUI. My vertical games require a different resolution than horizontal ones, etc. Does each game have an .ini file or something where I can modify different characteristincs like the screen resolution?

Can anyone help on this one? There must be some solution. Like I said, in the past, I was able to change the resolution in MameUI and when I tried to play on Gameex, the changes transferred over and the resolution was correct on Gameex too. The last few times I have tried it on a few games, however, the game works fine on MameUI and doesn't look good on Gameex. Is there a ini file for each file that has the game specific resolutions imbedded? Maybe Gameex just isn't looking at the right files? Could someone please point me in the right direction? I don't know how to use the info Brian gave me in the last post to make that work if that truly is the key. Thanks in advance!

New things I have tried.

1. Going in and manually changing the .ini files from 288X240 to 296X240. Didn't work in Gameex, still distorted.

2. I downloaded the Mame resolution tool from http://mamewah.mameworld.net/downloads.htm which promised to help me adjust resolutions of individual games. I ran it and then ran the patch to create the XML file, but no matter what I did I could not get it to populate the game list in order to change the resolutions. It seems this is what I am looking for, however, maybe someone could help me to get it to work?

It still looks great running it from Mameui or MameFx, but still is totally distorted and using a 288 horizontal resolution in Gameex... ugh!

Sorry for being a knucklehead, Brian. I am a newbie, so please bear with me!

What settings for the game do you mean? Do you want me to go into MAMEUI and snap a screenshot of the "screen" settings? I wouldn't even know where to put the command line in for each individual game, if you tell me where those go, I can play around with it and experiment. I know that if I could somehow change from 288 to 296, it would work as I have had to change many games in MameUI to get that to work. I still just don't understand how come it doesn't work anymore...

Well usually in the CFG folder are where in per game settings are stored. Id look there first. (the cfg folder should be in the mame dir)
