Nestopia asks which game to launch from the archive

I decided to switch over to nestopia after having too many problems with NNNester. So far I'm really happy with it, except for one simple thing.

If I have goodmerge support on, I get this ridiculous list of hacks and alternate versions when i browse certain games, such as Tecmo Super Bowl - but at least when i choose one, it immediately loads up.

If I turn goodmerge support off and try launching the game a dialog window pops up in nestopia asking me which game I would like to run, and again - poses a ridiculous list of hacks and such to choose from.

Interestingly enough, Nestopia doesn't do this if you go to "load" and choose the game... only when it is passed to nestopia via gameex.

My nestopia launch line in gameex is standard -

nestopia.exe "[ROMPath]\[RomFile]"

I glanced at the nestopia command line options and browsed through the menus, but didn't see anything along the lines of forcing nestopia to launch the exact name passed on to it. I can't figure out why it launches fine within nestopia but not via command line.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thats because you have a good set... Your roms are in 7zip format and in each 7zip file there are a handfull of dumps.

Download a no intro dat file. And un goodmerge your roms.. Use a rom manager and load in the DAT it will scan your rom dir and move the roms that match CRC to the no intro dat.

If you are unfamiliar with no-intro its a collection of the BEST dumps.. not all the hacks and pverdumps etc...

Yet another No-Intro recommendation by Brian! LOL. Definitely the way to go! ;)

Unless you actually play the hacked and alternate region versions of games, I also recommend switching to the No-Intro sets. They give you every game you have in the GoodMerge set but only one copy. If there is no US release of a game, it will include the JAP, UK, WORLD, etc. version instead depending on which one is a better match.

Thanks for the suggestion. Do I need to rebuild, or does a scan with the fix option turned on (in clrmamepro) do it?

Nothing needs to be rebuilt or fixed... Just roms that match the DAT are moved into a new location. Then you point gameex to that location.

I'll have to look into it. A CMP scan typically just tells me what is missing or what is un-needed, and doesnt actually copy anything anywhere. Where-as a rebuild typically takes what you have and cpies what it needs to match the dat. Hence my question.

Maybe there is another rom manager that works differently, but CMP is the only one I've had any experience with.

Rebuild if you wanna keep your current set intact. Or just fix the set you have to match the no-intro dat and just fill in what you need and delete what you don't.

I believe that if you rebuild to a new directory, it will only copy stuff in the dat, and you won't have to delete anything when your done.

Is there a how-to page anywhere on how to do this? I couldn't find any 'instructions' on the no-intro page. When I loaded the dat and scanend my goodmerge directory it's telling me I have no valid sets..... so I'm obviously doing something wrong.

edit: I just tried doing a blind rebuild, and it seems to be working fine. I was making it harder then it was by scanning in the first place.
