Look at this amazing arcade cabinet:

There is also a radio cast about it here: http://podcastdownload.npr.org/anon.npr-po...SS_17451249.mp3

There were some great features on there that I would love to know how he did.

How Did He...?:

...Make custom sounds when selecting menus? ("ATARI 2600.../Tank Fire/.../BOOM!/")

...Make Custom Game Announcments when starting a game? ("Combat 1977...Atari")

...Light up buttons based on what game he was playing?

...Play custom soundtrack for the menus?

I am currently building a multi-arcade cabinet of my own. I am new to GameEx, and I would like to learn all about it.

If you guys know of any other amazing arcade cabinets, or know some other neat features I should include, let me know!

Be aware that if you go to the extent that he did, you will be spending a small fortune! If you want to go that far, I highly recommend doing the basic cab first, then upgrading certain things in pieces. For example, you could do buttons later on and save a lot of money to start with. The buttons you buy to start with will get replaced, but they are fairly cheap even if you are putting together a monster 4 player CP. Same with joysticks to some degree, but be aware that hole patterns might not match...

Actually the PluginLCD supports speech and WAV playback too, so he's only using the one plugin :)

MetaHacker (Alex Markson), the creator of the Dope Brothers cabinet said that this was a very helpful and open community. He was right! You guys helped me out right away :)

Does anyone have any experience with the rgb led's that he used. I thought the light up buttons that changed for every game/console was a really nifty and unique feature. I assume that that is a program that GameEx calls when you select the game/console in the menu? Very slick...

I don't have lighted buttons *yet*, but that's a component that HK put together from the Ultimarc software, as I recall. There was a detailed thread that covered usage, but I don't remember a keyword. I'm sure HK can help you find it or help with direct questions since he's seen this thread...

Hi. I can definitely recommend GrooveyGameGear's led-wiz 32 port controllers and their rgb leds / buttons. Headkaze's lcd plugin for GameEX is brilliant. I initially bought standard pushbuttons with microswitches as this hardware was not available at the time i bought the standard stuff. But if you really want the animated lighting stuff why bother with the non lighted stuff. I wouldn't bother with the Ultimarc lighting solution (although i really love Andy's products) because it's a bit limited (single color leds) unless you're on a budget. But to be honest i've tried to buy cheap but ended up getting 'the real deal' so to speak and in the end you only end up paying for stuff that you'll eventually upgrade. It will cost you though. Just my 2 cents...

Thanks again for all your help guys. I've been having some trouble configuring the plugins. When I click the configure button, nothing happens. Is that a registered feature only?
