Just to let you all know, I have just beaten Black Tiger for the first time. Ever. I'm exhausted and jubillant and feel like a kid in an arcade back in the 80s again, except back then I could never finish Black Tiger!

THIS is why we do this: the clock just rolled back 20 years for me!

I agree, it's all about reliving childhood (and for some sharing their childhood with their own children) and forgetting about life's worries for a while. I've never been much of a fan of getting hiscores. I liked fighting games in the arcades, and NBA Jam was also fun for 4 players. I think the farthest I got in a game in the arcades was Final Fight or Double Dragon. Although it was probably more in my mind than in reality. You know I also remember that game NARC that had that awesome song in the background "oh no not the NARCies". That was a pretty mad game going around blowing people up into little pieces lol.

Hi guys,

No, I don't use the cheats, although I have been tempted! Closest I got was just adding more credits until I finished Metal Slug, but it loses it's appeal if you can do that, so I try to just play on one go, more like the original experience!

I have a little guy, 4 years old now, and he's just starting to get into games: doesn't really understand them, but loves just being with Daddy and his toys, and Mom gets a break from the two of us for a while. Win-win: yay for games!

Well done m8 thats a bluddy hard game as well. I have to be honest when I finished shinobi last week it took me 3 houres but you can't beat that feeling when your finished!!

I was fortunate enough to complete double dragon, gloden axe, dragon's lair and space ace in the arcades at the time. Even SMASH TV, but that was when I had a job, as it was an expensive night out!

Allright I hope that my achievments deserve "bragging" status!

I at one time had 999,999 in the top three spots in Tempest

Then, I did one of my brainless moves and deleted the file. DOH!

My top score is around 1,050,000. I agree with whoever said above that cheats aren't helpful, I found that I didn't try as hard when I had Infinite lives!

Played, Rusty, that's a rock hard game! You can't continue on the last level, either, so you have to be good: well done!

I like beating games: high scores are nice but the achievement is better, I think. I used to be able to finish Double Dragon (best thing was the head to head at end with a mate, no elbows was the only rule!), Thunder Cross and Thundercade 2 player (tough game!). Best of all was playing a game in the arcade, beating it, then walking away while the credits rolled, not even bothering to put your name in. The looks I would get from younger kids, made me feel like I was Clint Eastwood!

You can't beat "Tempest", it just goes on and on. Tempest only saves the top three scores, so the best you can do is to have them all at 999,999. It rolls to 0 from there, and trust me its a pain to die at EXACTLY 999,999.

After Level 99, the levels appear randomly so when you die you come back in a different level.

In Mame, use Tab > Dip Switches > Bonus Coins, and set it to one that says (+demo), and you can start on any level you want. If you get into trouble in while playing in "Demo Mode", press player 2 start, and it will take you to the next level.

I realize most people don't care, but it's always been an obsession with me.....
