I've attached 2 jpgs to show a problem I've been having for a long time now but never bothered looking into.

GameEx seems to be resizing txt and layout between games, if you check out the before jpg this is how the display is supposed to look and generally it stays like this but after coming in a out of a few games it sometimes takes a notion to change to the after jpg were the txt is slightly larger and things don't fit as well.

I can't pinpoint exactly at what point this happens but I think it happens mostly when playing mame games I have an arcade vga so the resolution will be constantly changing with each arcade game could this be the culprit?

Any idea welcome I'm stomped

Running Aero Fighters causes the issue to happen?

Yeah it seems to be I hadn't realised that it was certain games that done it I thought it was just random and Aero Fighters just happened to be the first 1 I tried but I just tested it 3 more times and it happend all 3 times with Aero Fighters

Any ideas what I can try here? This seems to be happening a lot more than ever before or else I just happen to be playing more games that cause the font to change, it seems to happen more with vertical games, to be honest I can't recall it happening with horizontal games but I'm not 100%

I'm thinking it might be some sort of ArcadeVGA related issue, when I'm flicking between resolutions somethings screwing up. Do we have many ArcadeVGA users here?

Thanks

I've just worked out what's causing this, I used a tool called ArcadeVGARes to generate individual ini files for every game with custom resolutions, if ArcadeVGARes can't find a resolution that is close enough to the resolutions I've specified it will go with this generic ini file

screen0 \\.\DISPLAY1
switchres 1
hwstretch 1
bezel 0
backdrop 0
resolution 640x480
resolution0 640x480@0

It would appear GameEx has a problem with these games... my desktop screen resolution is already 640x480 so I thought maybe it's something to do with Mame trying to switch resolutions but not actually changing anything so I changed switchres 1 to switchres 0 for AeroFighters fired it up a few times and when I returned to GameEx the fonts were fine, I've came out and in of GameEx and AeroFighter a few times and everything seems fine now so I think this is definitely the problem.

My problem now is that I've no way of changing generic ini file that ArcadeVGARes creates so I'm gonna have to write something that will check all my ini's for me unless you can fix this Tom, I'll give your new exe a try now

Cheers

Seems there is more to the problem than I thought...

I tried your exe and AeroFighters worked with switchres 1 so I thought 'happy days, problem solved' but then I thought I'll just try the old exe just to be sure and guess what... it also worked :)

Then I remembered that during my previous tests I was having another problem which was when I exited a game GameEx would fire it back up again and would get into an endless loop of me stopping and it starting the game again so I had decided to turn off the control panel viewer just to see if that had anything to do with it, this seems to have cured the start stop loop but it would now appear that control panel viewer has also something to do with my font issue

So...

If I enable Control Panel Viewer and try and use an ini with switchres 1 and the resolution set to the same as my desktop then my font's get screwed when I return to GameEx

If I turn off Control Panel Viewer everything seems fine... for now :)

This happens with both exe's

Hope this helps you somehow

No, the 1 that appears for 10 seconds before a game launches, also the endless loop problem seems to be when I press a button to skip the control panel then when GameEx returns it's as if it thinks whatever button I've press to skip the control panel is being held down, so when I was press my UI select key to skip the control panel when I returned it was pressing starting the game again but if I was to press the UI back button when I return to GameEx it would keep going back until it reaches the title screen.

Thanks

What sort of controls system do you have setup in GameEx, DirectInput, IPAC, Joystick?
