I realize that games after 2000ish don't really emulate well on PC with mame since it doesn't utilize video cards and such, but why does the series seem to pretty much stop around 2000-2002, is it because the games just don't run so its not worth the time or what?

A lot of games from that time frame, and on, are still in operation today in various places (arcades, bars etc). Mamedev won't emulate games that are still making money. It keeps Mame under the radar a little bit more and keeps everyone off their backs.

Well mame has a time frame they go by.. Lets face it you can still find street fighter 3 some places.

I mean the software that runs the games and are alot more advanced. Not to mention all the crazy encryptions that are on new hardware is diffacult to crack.

just last year cps3 was cracked and emulated in 3 weeks. There is alot been advances on naomi hardware (Marvel vs Capcom 2) and MK4

True about the cps3, and I figured there was a three year time frame like VP but must be 5-7ish for mame.

I don't know if there's anything set in stone that says "thou shall not release games that are less than xx years old", but I suspect it also has to do with the availability for collectors to obtain the boards as much as a rule. If a game is making money, it's going to be hard for a collector to get one off a route. So, unless a collector is so dedicated as to buy a new cab, it's a bit of a waiting game.

Off the top of my head....

About 6 years.....

Unless it's still making money or a company asks for it to be removed...

Then what about King of Fighers 2003? 2003+6=2009? SNK is still making games for the NeoGeo and they are still on route in some locations. How can the MAMEdevs let it go? I'm not complaining, just asking for understanding.

I'm not going to drag Mame politics over to this board....

I don't know why they do things....They obviously have reasons for including/excluding games....

All I can say for certain is they piss me off sometimes....

Quotes like this make me do a double-take. Mame devs devote all this time to something that is completely free to you and I and allows us to play a crapload of our favorite arcade games and still get nitpicked. I'd say in the grand scheme of things there's not a thing to complain about when it comes to MAME. Not many things are that cool and bring that much enjoyment for free anymore.

Don't take this the wrong way Orclord, just razzing you a bit. :P

Oh I'm not moaning about Mame...It's their baby and they can rightly do as they wish with it....Take things out...Change things etc..I'm not bothered....

It's the attitude that sometimes pees me off.....

I've seen some of the stuff you are talking about, but I would just suggest that the attitude outsiders see is based on other BS they deal with internally and don't let out. Not trying to suggest that there's strife amongst the MAMEdev team (cause I wouldn't know), I'm just saying that there's lots of people all over the world that contact them about a variety of issues (including self serving things) but they don't tell all casue it doesn't matter.

Either way, I'm just happy that the MAMEdevs are still working on new things rather than just calling it!
