GameEx experts,

I recently setup GameEx and it is working great---thanks to all that helped.

I currently use VP Man to run my visual pinball games because it has a nice grid that lists all the games for easy selection.

What is the best way/program to incorporate Visual Pinball in Game Ex? Is there a way for GameEx to list all the pinball table choices much like it does for MAME or is there an emulator it can download that makes pinball selection easy?

Thanks in advance for the help!

This file helped me to get it going in Game EX seamlessly. I got it from another thread. Good luck

Check the tutorials, I made a doc and included all needed runtimes.

Thanks Brian...I appreciate the help. I will give it a try.

Is there any way to configure GAME EX to load up another front end? For example, I like VP man because of the way it displays the tables and categorizes them.

Thanks,

Chad

Of couse you can. Gameex can launch anything. The only issues Id see are how would navigation be? Eg does VP man work with your controls. Also once the game lauches does the FE close? Gameex will monitor the process it launches but once the game launches it may close. Which may make gameex think the program is closed and will return gameex to the screen while VPinball is running in the backround. It happens alot with games that use launchers. Then there is a workaround or a wrapper created.

You know me... I say stick with gameex.. But hey i guess im a little partial.

Thanks Brian....I tried (quickly) last night to setup Vpinball via your guide. Thank you for the work on it. Because I already have vpinball setup my directories were a bit different and I did not copy over any of your files or the configuration. When I ran pinball through Game EX, a list of pinballs appeared (not full names, abbreviated) and when I selected a table, the screen went blank and I heard a windows "bink" and the screen stayed black until I escaped. Im not sure if the problem is I didnt use the config file for Game EX (not sure how to incorporate it) or if the command line was wrong. Any thoughts?

May I ask, if it is not too complicated, how I can setup Game EX to load VPin Man? Do I just go to the emulator setup and input directories, the .exe file, command line?

Many thanks!

Well yes you would launch it via command line. Eg the working directory and Rom directory would be the location where vpman is. Im sure its an EXE so the rom filter would be *.exe and the commmand would be "[rompath]\[romfile]"

As far as your config through gameex the filter should be *.vpt and the names should be that. You SHOULD be able to click a VPT table and have it load visualpinball. The script for the table calls the correct ROM. So by you saying your games are abbreviated it sounds like your calling it by the rom which wont work. Take a look at the attached gameex config by DJ Infinity.

If you still need help post your config so we can see exactly whats going on.

I got my tables to show up, but they list as odd looking names. What is the naming convention for the SNAPS so that I can at least have a picture to identify the tables?

Snaps are named the same as the files your refrencing in your rom filter... So if your using *.vpt the snaps will be named the same as the virtual pinball tables your calling.

Ive never seen a *.Vpts with obscure names... Either you got them from a strange source or your simply still doing something wrong.. Please post your config and a snap of your folders.

1. I had my snaps named incorrectly

2. I had my path set wrong in GameEx config

got it all working now, thanks!

Oh Man! That art renamer utility will be heaven for me when I go to add back in the snaps to my very weeded out MAME collection.

BUT

It's BS when it comes to a Pinball collection of snaps. I have been pulling my hair out on how I can create my OWN consistant snap collection. The picture ESC or timed snap doesn't work at all for me.

Snaps that come with pinball tables are of many different orientation, angles, zooms, and scanned flyer art thrown in as a 'screenshot'
