Hey gang, For some reason (posted previously) GAME EX started acting up. I think (FINGERS CROSSED) I got rid of the netzero broadcast error but I cant get rid of the Hideos.exe error when shutting down the computer from GAME EX. I went to microsoft and downloaded 2.0 (said I already had it installed). Was I downloading the wrong one? Any advice? Out of curiosity, I downloaded the latest GAME EX a couple of weeks ago and I noticed it messed up a whole bunch of stuff. It changed my roms directories for daphne to a snes directory...stuff like that. Just curious. Finally, does anyone know where to find snaps for the art/cabinet/control panel for dragons lair and space ace? Thanks for your help! Chad

Tom, Dumb question...I am not particularly tech savy, where do I find the log to post? Is it just a text file? Because this problem happens when I shutdown the computer turns off and when I reboot, it loads Game EX. Will the log still be helpful or do I need to interrupt the booting prior to GAME EX loading? Thank you for taking the time to help. Many thanks! Chad

The HideOS.exe problem only occurs when shutting down or restarting from from inside GAME Ex. The other issue is when I shutdown or restart from windows or Game EX, I get a "net Broadcast event Window 1.0.5" error. Everything was working fine until recently. I havent made any changes to the system. Any advice is appreicated. I promise to turn off windows auto updates if someone can help! I see there is a net 2.0 download off of microsoft. Would that help or hurt? Chad

To further clarify, Game EX and the games work fine, the problem occurrs when trying to shut down the computer. Thanks! Chad

Gang, Game Ex has been working great. However, the last few timesz i have exited window I get the hideos.exe (or dll) failed to initialize error which really slows down the shutdown of windows. I dont recall seeing this error the first couple weeks of usage. Thanks in advance for the help! Chad

I havent tried emulating Dreamcast yet. I have an arcade cab with the 6 button street fighter layout. May I ask how well Dreamcast games work when emulated and if my button config would work well? I used to LOVE Powerstone. Chad

I know what you mean. I started out that way and I just wasnt please with all the crap on the list and didnt think it looked as clean. The no-clones unless better list looks much cleaner and is easier to quickly navigate. One step I took is to look at a number of "top 100" and "best of" video game lists and cross check against my list. That's how I caught some of the games I mentioned. Thanks, Chad

Loving GameEX. I have over time heard about games that were filtered out by Game EX but were pretty good. Some examples, Ms Pacman Fast, Double Dragon Beta (DD didnt show up on own), Street Fighter II Hyperfighting. Anyone care to list any others I might add to the do not filter list? Thanks, Chad

Hi Brian, I checked the command line in GAME EX and the settings on my desktop and they both match. The graphics just dont look as clean as they do when I run through the Daphne Loader 1.1 Any other ideas? Is it the "- commands" in the GAME EX daphne section? Many thanks!! Chad P.S. Everything else is running great. I love GAME EX.

Out of curiosity, anyone come up with a good replacement sound? I was thinking about, "Shall we play a game?" from Wargames. Chad

Thanks for the help! Chad

Brian, I checked it out and I am running GAME EX at the same resolution as the desktop. It just looks different than when I use Daphne Loader. No big deal, but any other ideas? Thanks, Chad

Brian, Thank you for the conntinuing awesome support. I hope I can soon start helping with answering questions rather than just asking. Chad

Guys, When I run Dlair and Space Ace via Daphne on GameEX it looks like there is a video filter of some sort. The games dont look as clear as they do when using Daphne loader. Any ideas? Thanks, CHad

Thank you Brian. May I trouble to ask you about how to change the stock Emulators logo? Thanks!
-
Also, under "emulators" a stock image of the N64 appears. Any way to change that out? Thanks! Chad

I am using Game EX Setup wizard. I setup an emulator to load VP MAn. There is an option for "logo" and the instructions are "Tha name of a PNG or JPG image without the extension and path that will be shown on the Start Page when the emulator is selected. This image must be in the ProgramFiles/gameex/media/logs folder. Note there are a selection of images already there for most emulated systems." There was no logos directory so I created one and put a downloaded JPEG image of a pinball. In the prompt, I simply listed the name of the image, e.g. Pinball best but nothing shows. If I remove the name of the image, a stock GAME EX phot appears. Any ideas? Thanks in advance for the help! Chad

Brian...thanks. You guys are all great with your help. I am heading out of town for a few days but I will follow up with you when I get back and try your suggestions. Thanks! Chad

Thanks Brian....I tried (quickly) last night to setup Vpinball via your guide. Thank you for the work on it. Because I already have vpinball setup my directories were a bit different and I did not copy over any of your files or the configuration. When I ran pinball through Game EX, a list of pinballs appeared (not full names, abbreviated) and when I selected a table, the screen went blank and I heard a windows "bink" and the screen stayed black until I escaped. Im not sure if the problem is I didnt use the config file for Game EX (not sure how to incorporate it) or if the command line was wrong. Any thoughts? May I ask, if it is not too complicated, how I can setup Game EX to load VPin Man? Do I just go to the emulator setup and input directories, the .exe file, command line? Many thanks! Chad
-
Thanks Brian...I appreciate the help. I will give it a try. Is there any way to configure GAME EX to load up another front end? For example, I like VP man because of the way it displays the tables and categorizes them. Thanks, Chad

GameEx experts, I recently setup GameEx and it is working great---thanks to all that helped. I currently use VP Man to run my visual pinball games because it has a nice grid that lists all the games for easy selection. What is the best way/program to incorporate Visual Pinball in Game Ex? Is there a way for GameEx to list all the pinball table choices much like it does for MAME or is there an emulator it can download that makes pinball selection easy? Thanks in advance for the help! Chad

GREAT directions...thank you as well. A question...I have just recently set up game ex running MAME FX. The hi score seems to work in most of the games. What advantage is there to compiling as you suggested? Are there other patches to apply to add functionality (e.g. remove messages like "there are known problems with this rom")? Many thanks~ Chad

Ben Kenobi.... You won't believe this--in fact I am not sure I do--but my cousin recommended I check into new drivers because the computer came from Dell. I downloaded new Direct X and new graphic card drivers and I think everything is working great with MAMEX. I've played several games and I still am holding out fear that the stuttering and tearing will come back but not yet! Wow...thanks for all your help! I configured Space Ace and Dragon's Lair. Any other neat things I should look into with GAME EX. Thanks for your help....I probably spent 20 hours monkeying around with this thing but it was worth it. Your help made it erasier! Thanks! Chad

Just curious... Also, I have a dell 2.2ghz with 1 gig ram. Onboard video card ATi Radeon 1300 pro. In the bios, should I set the memory for the video card to 64mb or 128 mb? Thanks Chad
