Has anyone had experience in getting an arcade gun, like the one used for T2 , to work with mame and a pc monitor?

Not sure. I just bought a cab with a light gun, but the gun doesn't work. As soon as the replacement comes, I'll try it out. The difficult part will be finding whether mame can support the video sync invloved in getting the "hits" to register. The PC monitor should be Ok. I'm not sure how this process works, but I've just started to research this myself. Anyone else?

And I'm just wondering whether the T2 gun uses input from a joystick to track the crosshair movement. Do you know whether the gun is actually a light gun, or just a giant joystick? If it's just a joystick, you're set.

Also, there is a huge collection of gun topics over at the BYOAC forums, I just haven' had the time to sift through it yet. I'm thinking that it'll require a usb gun or something compatible with the guncon2 stuff.

FYI, the gun on T2 was not actually a light gun like those used in time crisis etc. It was actually a 4 way joystick mounted in the base of the gun. If you remember, you tilted the gun to aim and this registered on the joysticks. Just a useless bit of trivis. :)

No, that's a good thing. And thanks for the trivia! It just means that the input is from a standard analog joystick. In that case, it's totally compatible with mame. It just depends on what Capp wants to do with the gun.

nah mate not useless at all, thats what i needed to find out, as i have sifted thru the byoac forums and it just goes on and on. apparantly u can hack a ps2 light gun to use with a tv, but not yet with a monitor due to the limitations of it.

primarily i want to use it for timecrisis and such games, but havent looked further into if its compatible.

i dont have the gun as yet, was looking into it first before i decide whether to buy one or not.

forget the name, but there is a PC gun (I think ACT labs) that works with PC monitors and I think is supported in one of the incarnations of MAME (advancemame?)...

BYOC is the best place to find out more. I am not currently running light guns, but I was tempted to get that PC one when I heard about it. Not sure if it would work with the arcade monitor though

UPDATE: Found it!

$50 for 2 http://cgi.ebay.com/Act-Labs-PC-Arcade-Lig...1QQcmdZViewItem

$80 for 1 VGA or $100 for 1 TV/S-video

I seem to recall these costing about $40 when they were first released, looks like the MSRP has increased a bit... ebay is your friend.

As it stands, Act Labs is no longer making those guns. Ebay is definitely your friend; grab a few while you can.
