x arcade with game ex

i have used game ex with my x arcade joysticks for several years and have been pleased. two weeks ago my hard drive crashed and my friend installed a new one. we then installed game ex, etc. it is a later version and works well except for one little glitch. to "fire" in all games it doesn't work with the proper button. it used to be left ctrl button. now it does nothing upon pressing ctrl button. instead it fires on the numpad 8 button and moves up at the same time. both functions on one button. how can i fix this? i'm fairly new to all this. i've looked but don't know what to do. should i reload everything or use an older version of game ex..... thanks i'm stumped and losr without my game ex...

Load up mame. Press TAB.goto input settings. Reconfigure the controls. This is not a gameex issue.

And check your MAME.INI or MAME32.INI file, and ensure you have "xarcade" set as controller type and not keyboard.

I had the exact same problem with my tankstick. After upgrading past Mame32 version 118 or later, the x-arcade never worked quite right. I triple checked that all my settings were correct within Mame32, but I would go into a game and the Player 1 controller never mapped correctly. Player 2 only mapped a few of the correct keys.

What I ended up doing was deleting all the other controller CFG files contained within CTRLR directory and downloaded the version of MAME32 Plus! that x-arcade gives away on their website (see URL below). Within this zip file was an updated xarcade.cfg (dated 10/24/07) newer than the one they offer as a direct download.

I dropped this updated cfg into the CTRLR (so that it was the ONLY file contained within the CTRLR directory) and re-launched MAME32 (I am running .122 u6). Everything worked after that point. I am not sure what changed within the CFG file (it is a just a few K smaller), but it solved my problem. X-Arcade needs to update their CFG file (direct download) to this new version. It would save all of us a lot of wasted time and effort.

Thanks,Pancho!! After banging my head for 5 hrs now I can get my MAME32 to work. This is the only thing that worked for me.Thanks for posting what worked for you. I'm sure it is going to help alot of MAME32 gamers!

The input system introduced in Mame 118 was changed to use the Raw Input System which allows for multiple mouse & keyboards. This broke alot of cfg files which need to be deleted and re-created.
