Hello all,

I have a Slikstik quad and in my ipac settings the Shifted Player 2 start button is mapped to Escape. How exactly do I use this though? I've tried holding down the player 2 key, but nothing happens. The normal tap works fine, and will start the player 2 game, but isn't holding it down suppose to send an escape?

Appreciate any info anyone can offer.

Thanks.

You press the shifted key in conjuction with another key. Not just holding it.

Run your IPAC program to see which key it it :)

Ahh, ok. Makes sense Now my next newb issue......how do I know which is the shifted key?

Its not the literal 'shift' key, right?

Attached is my shifted layout pic.

I played around and found out its the player 1 start key. If I hold that key down and press player 2 start it executes the ESC key. Pretty sweet.....thanks for the help.

Is there a way to define a different key as the shifted key though? I don't see anything in the program that mentions it. Configurable or hard coded?

try clicking the show shifted keys radial on the left

That pic is the shifted key view. The other view every button is populated with its normal key function.

Ignore the controler mappings, those I did in shifted mode by mistake. I already removed them. Right now the Player 2 is mapped to Escape and evereything else says none.

Player 1 is the shifted key, but it just doesn't say it anywhere. Not a big deal.....it works fine so I'll just leave it I guess.

thanks for the help :)

PhoneLine, switch to table view and you should see the shifted key combinations in blue with the modifier on the left. The default is the Start 1 button. See below from Ultimarc:

Understanding the I-PAC shift feature.

The I-PAC has a feature which allows you to select one button to be a shift button. This is normally "start1" but can be any button. You will want to limit the choice to buttons that are not used intensively during gameplay though. This button can still retain it's normal use as well as being shift, or you can have a dedicated button just for shift. Pressing and holding this button invokes a different set of keycodes for all of the other buttons. These are normally used for control functions such as quit, coin, etc. That way you don't need special buttons for these functions and can retain the arcade-authenticity of your panel (have you ever seen a real arcade machine with a coin insert button on the panel!!??)

There is more in-depth information on how the shift function works here.

Most people change their IPac programming so that P1 Start and P2 Start DON'T exit a game. If you are playing a game with someone and you both hit Start to re-enter the game, BOOM you are now out of the game.

I have a dedicated exit button but if you don't then you should still change it to something other than P1 and P2 Start Buttons.

I don't have shifted buttons on my cab, but I just mapped P1 left and P1 Right to quit. Since it's impossible to actually press both buttons at once, that's good! I added another button to the CP and used a couple diodes to in the wiring. You could do the same, but might want to choose another shift button if you want more than one command shifted.
