Hey I would like to run GameEX on my 1080P set. I have a ATI AIW X600 with VGA/DVI outputs. I can connect my computer to my HDTV and get my desktop, but when I load GameEX, I see the "Please Wait" screen of my GameEX theme then my TV says "not supported, but having a dual setup, my computer screen works and launched GameEX display.

Any help would be appreciated, is this even possible?

I have a sli setup hooked to a plasma and to my knowledge you can't game using HDMI sorry (at least I couldn't)

If you have the TV and computer monitor hooked up at the same time you should try switching the TV to the primry display.

If not try making gameex run in 1900x1080 resolution in the advanced cofig tool.

I read somewhere that on some tv's only one of the HDMI ports runs 1080p while the others are limited to 720p or something ridiculous like that. I dont knowhow much truth there i to that. But try a different HDMI anyways.

hmm Well it must be an HDMI thing. I'll try to force that resolution and see what happens. This should be in a Memo about what inputs GameEX will not tolerate for now.

These may or may not be some answers but I have had similar problems, and just some observations.

I've been trying to use digital connections since projection tv days but I've come to find that most displays advertise 1080p while it is usually either from an analog signal or 1080i and then upconverted.

On my first hdtv i tried using DVI and the highest resolution I received was 800X600p but as soon as I switched my vid card to an interlaced signal I could display 1080i.

My next was a plasma with a rgb input and HDMI and it can display 1360X768p through the RGB signal which is still analog. I then tried a DVI to HDMI adapter and the highest signal I got I believe was 1024X768p at 16bit color.

On still yet the newest one which is a 48" Vizio 1080p LCD HDTV (around $1200usd) although it is capable of a 1080p resolution it is through the RGB only which again is a analog signal. It does look great but I have yet to find a display under 10K that will receive a digital signal of 1080p.

If you don't mind a high res analog connection I recommend using it for the time being, until displays can handle true HD signals. Just my .02

Sry double post. Try using the adapter method for DVI and HDMI and see what the highest res you crank out of it while maintaining either 50 or 60hz depending on your region.

Ok so I used my PC-VGA port on my Samsung instead and it works perfectly, but I had to set GameEX to use 1920X1080 in the configs. Man what a difference HDMI makes in color PQ. Now let me try some games and see how they look.

I guess I should of known not many apps can handle True HD yet, but the VGA PC connection works.

Are they working on it?

Sounds like a HDCP problem. HDMI has copy protection BS these days so if that's in your TV, but your video card doesn't output it, you will be SOL. The VGA port is not susceptible to the copy protection, so that should work fine if this is the problem.

Like T.Goodchild says - its your refresh rate - 50 or 60Hz that will be the problem. In Aus most of our LCD and Plasma screens run at 60Hz only, and HDMI True HD resolution at 1920 x 1080 for 1080p, 1080i is 1366 x 768 here.

I have a Samsun true HD screen, and it works perfectly from HDMI output from a PC - I couldnt get OSX towork with it though, nbecause OSX tried to be smart and auto-choose the "optimal" resolution which it never got the refresh rate right for, and after chattign with Apple, has no facility for manual overide.

HDCP wont be the issue here - HDCP is an optional feature for HD-DVD and BluRay, and unless it is built into the software to look for it, it will NOT impact your image on the screen. Evenif you dont have HDCP, its not supposed to prevent any image on the screen, it jsut downgrades the resolution to 1080i max rather than the sharp, clear 1080p images.

No one should be denied their daily fix of GameEX - I know I get the shakes if I dont :)

Good point. I forgot that HDCP doesn't disable the image, it simply reduces the resolution. Glad to hear someone with experience was able to help!

We're actually going to be getting a HDTV in a couple of days due to our old CRT TV dying out. Is this something I'm going to have to look out for? Our HTPC runs GameEX, and along with an Xbox 360, Gamecube and (eventually) a DVD upscaler they're all going to be connected to the HDTV. I've been paying close attention to the Sharp LC42PD7X (1080p), due to it's lower price, good quality and DVI connection. Should I be safe with DVI? I don't think VGA gives a true 1:1 representation of a computer's output due to it being analog, so that's why the DVI is so appealing

This has to do with the video card supporting the monitor more than GameEx supporting it. As long as you can output the correct resolutions so things show up on the TV, you can get GameEx to work with it.
