Came across this ini file that can be used in GameEx. It categorises games into top 100 games.

0 (Not Working): The game doesn't work at all. Note that this includes all games marked as "GAME_NOT_WORKING" in MAME; but is not limited to them. This is because I believe there are several games that should have the "GAME_NOT_WORKING" flag set but for whatever reason (oversight, most likely) they do not.

10 or 20 (Terrible): The game is utter garbage and really not worth playing at all.

30 or 40 (Poor): The game play is not good, the frame rate, colors, responsiveness may be substandard, or the game itself may be a bad rip-off of another, original game.

40 or 60 (Average): The game doesn't feature anything particular interesting or unique, though it may be worth playing every once in a while.

70 or 80 (Good): The game is definitely worth playing but falls short in some areas.

90 or 100 (Great): The best stuff is here. This includes all games considered "classics" but also includes games that are just a whole lot of fun to play.

Nologic: This probably means we need an icon for this too now *duck*

Like i said in another post - we need Tom to allow for Adultery's new catagories and this one so that it will display the correct icon. Thanks HK for the find (and sorry Nologic !).

Thanks folks !

GameEx already displays the correct icons for these new categories. Check out the thread with the icon's in them. Adultery has the icons there to match the categories. Just place them in your Themes\Logos folder and they will show up in GameEx. I use Nologic's icons now so I just renamed them to match and they show up fine. I will be releasing a pack with all these new graphics by Nologic and I'll be sending a copy to Tom for hosting. Only got a few more icons for Nologic to finish and we'll have the complete set :)

This looks really interesting. I've grabbed the file an will play with it, but it looks like a really nice list. Thanks!

This one should work with GameEx. I've replace the line feeds with carriage return + line feed.

See attached.

ahh man...I knew I was avoiding this thread for a reason...just didn't know what it was...hehe turns out...its more work.

Yeah you better duck HK...I had a feeling you where buttering me up the other day...hehe now I see why.

The main reason that my icon's don't work right off the bat is because I'm being difficult...I know hard to imagine eh? ;)

I think i'm doing something stupid though Nologic (as per usual) as Adultery's extra icons are not showing. I'll play around with them when i get rid of this hangover !

@Tom - Thanks for the ini.

Thanks for the heads up...I really wasn't sure if they would render well at lower rez's.

Adultery -

Yeah I'll send you a copy...its around 25mb right now since I've been leaving every thing in it...but it'll likely compress to much smaller...I hope.

It would be nice to get a full set out and then tweak things later as we go along...I got a number of them I'd like to redo as is.

Use it the same as you would a MAME favorites folder and point GameEx at the folder your Favorites are in. :)

Sorry, I'm more special needs than that. Is there a guide to setting up a MAME favorites folder somewhere? Or can you please tell me where to put this ini file, and where to tell GamdEx about it. Sorry to need handholding.

Thanks,

In the GameEx setup (either Setup Wizard or Advanced Config), there is an option for a "Favorites Folder". This folder contains MAME32 formatted lists of any games you want. These are processed by GameEx and added as a new menu item. So, for instance, if you wanted a list of games listed by ranking, you would just take the Ranking.ini and put it in whatever folder you pointed to in GameEx.

Under Basic MAME settings (2) there's a place to point GameEx to a favorites file. Is that what you mean? It wants an .ini file, not a folder. I tried pointing to this this rankings.ini file and then updating the game list in GameEx, but I don't see the categories in GameEx.

I think BK is saying to put the .ini file in the favorites file that you are pointing Gameex at.

Sorry, maybe it's called custom categories instead. I can check later, but there is both a favorites file and a folder where you can create your own lists.

Ok got it, thanks. It's called the custom lists path. I set it up and got it to work. For some reason I'm tempted to try games in the category named "Terrible" first.

Unfortunately, when I first thought you meant to point to this .ini file as my favorites file, GameEx ended up importing all the games on this list to my favorites list. So now I have 2,000 games in my favorites list. Is there a way to empty the favorites list? I don't mind totally emptying it and repopulating it. I tried to import an empty .ini as my favorites file but no luck.

Thanks, Dan

The favorites in Gameex are kept in "C:\Program Files\GameEx\DATA\Data.mdb"

You could edit the file, Or move it out of the folder, and Gameex will make a new one (I think). If you have an old copy, you can just replace the new one with the old one.

Thanks, I tried removing it, and GameEx wouldn't start (gave me an error message). I had also installed a previous version of GameEx on another computer, so I copied that one's data.mdb file. It cleared the favorites and doesn't seem to have done any other damage. It cleared all info, including "last played", but I can easily live with that. Thanks a lot!

I must be doing something wrong. I created a file folder customfolders in Mame and put rankings.ini in there. Then I went into gameex's settings and browsed to that location for custom lists location and I still don't see the rankings list anywhere. What am I missing?

Also, I setup a favorite radio station in the gameex settings and radio stations don't show up anywhere. Where would a radio station link show up, I assumed under multimedia...

You need to update your Mame list within GameEx.
