Hello everyone :) I'm testing GameEx to see if it's the right frontend for my cabinet: for now I really like it, it seems the best feature wise, but I find it really hard to configure :( There are so many options it's easy to get lost and don't find what you're looking for :D However, here's what I'm trying to do: I want to create a 3 level menu layout like this

All games

Favorites

Never played

Multiplayer

Top 10

[empty line]

Update list

Shutdown

(well... three level beause each of these calls the corresponding game list, and each game it's details ;) )

For now I pretty much removed from the home screen every option I didn't want there, but I can't find how to get rid of the "radio" and "dvd" options (and I disabled dvd player during configuration O_o)... I know that I can disable the home screen, or switch to gamelauncher mode... but that's not what I want, I like the home screen and need it for my 3 level menu :) so I need to

1) rename "Mame" in the home screen, so that it becomes "all games"

2) remove every other option but the ones listed

3) find a way to add the top10

Can someone help me with the settings? thanks :)

Renaming MAME is done in the Text/Language section of the Config Tool

I don't think you'll be able to get a Top 10 section but you could enable the Most Played section and rename this to Top 30 or whatever it holds, I can't remember of the top of my head

I'd check the MultiMedia/HTPC section and see if there's anything in there you can disable to get rid of the DVD section and try disabling all the radio stations in the radio station section, I know it's definately possible to remove these 2 items because I know I don't have them in my cabinet but I can't remember how I done it

Hopefully that will get you a bit further forward, though I don't think you'll be able to do all that you want with GameEx as it doesn't really support fully customizable menus

If you want a dynamic top 10, that would currently be pretty tough since it doesn't exist. You can easily have a list of favorite games for all GameEx users (it shows up as LIVE - GameEx or something) and/or a MAWS list (LIVE - MAWS) as they are built in and can be turned on. You could also build a MAME32 formated list of your own top 10 games and have it show up on the front page. It won't be updated dynamically, though. This would be little better than a favorites list in my opinion.

Personally, I like this idea and think it should be added. I would suggest that you add this to the feature request thread. I don't think this would be difficult since it's not much of an extension from what is already being done with the other LIVE lists and the data is already collected.

Thank you both :) I found what was wrong: I disabled DVD player, but the option for "DVD playing from the hd" was still enabled. Now the DVD menu it's not in my homescreen anymore :)

As for the top10, I'll post a feature request ;)

Thanks

Since Tom answered this in the features request thread, I'll append it here to:

Top10 doesn't exist, but Most Played does. This displays more than 10 titles based on number of times launched, but I don't know what the threshhold is. If you want to name it something else, you can do so in the Text/... menu in the configuration wizard. Just search for text should work.
