I noticed that, altrought present and parsed when updating gamelist, mameinfo and history.dat informations are displayed only partially in the game infromation page of gameex. For example, the neogeo game "Last blade" shows only Japanese weapons-based fighter featuring beautiful artwork and sound. Twelve selectable characters and two end bosses. and then the raccomended games; In the history.dat file instead the text continues... Japanese weapons-based fighter featuring beautiful artwork and sound. Twelve selectable characters and two end bosses. - TECHNICAL - SNK Neo-Geo MVS hardware Game ID : 0234 Main CPU : 68000 Sound CPU : Z80 Sound Chips : YM2610 Screen orientation : Horizontal Video resolution : 320 x 224 pixels Screen refresh : 59.19 Hz Palette colors : 4096 Players : 2 Control : 8-way joystick Buttons : 4 => [A] Weak slash, [B] Strong slash, [C] Kick, [D] Repel - TRIVIA - This game is known in Japan as "Bakumatsu Roman - Gekka no Kenshi" (translates from Japanese as 'Bakumatsu Romance - Swordsman In The Moonlight'), and in Korea as "The Last Soldier". Parts of Gekka no Kenshi was based off of the manga 'Rurouni Kenshin'. The Bakumatsu period of Japan (1860-1899) represents the opening of Japanese ports to foreigners. The Last Blade is set during this time period and you can see Europeans in some backgrounds, as well as some European dress influences on some characters. This game has a lot to do with Japanese religion. In what little understanding of Japanese culture, there are four gods in Japanese mythology : Seiryuu (blue dragon), Suzaku (red phoenix), Byakko (white tiger) and Genbu. Each god is associated with a direction : Byakko with west, Seiryuu with east, Genbu with north and Suzaku in the south. The four gods also seem to be portrayed in an identical manner : Suzaku is often seen as a renegade of sorts, Genbu is often wise, Byakko seems to be strong and Seiryuu seems to be the role of the protagonist. To this end, the four characters that are avatars to these gods in Gekka no Kenshi (Kaede, Okina, Shigen and Kagami) seem to fit the gods themselves to a tee (Kaede to Seiryuu, Okina to Genbu, Shigen to Byakko and Kagami to Suzaku). However, there may be one (unintentional) reference to the entire fighting game itself. These four characters may very well represent the four popular styles of characters found in nearly fighting game [...] Is this the normal GameEx behaviour? Is possible displaying the whole game informations? perhaps with a button, like for the marquee, flyer etc?

Haven't heard of CPViewer before: I'll take a look, thanks As for the tip about cleaning the cache, I'll try: however I just freshly installed windows, so a cache problem seems strange O_o I'll just try cleaning, it won't hurt anyway As for hiding the desktop, I was going to shell gameex after completing its configuration, but I'll try that too

Thanks! Doh... i feel stupid never tought of being able to skip it by pressing a button however if it's not too complex an option to change this beaviour would be good: after all this way I'd be able to check controls for the games from the game info menu only when I need it, or in-game with the hotkey, and not at every launch I'll post my log as soon as I get home Just tell me how to do so By the way, do you think that creating a virtual ramdrive and putting part of gameex data files here would help me speed things up? Also, if this helps you findind if something's wrong, gameex loads really fast when launching... (besides the nag screen, I'm still waiting the arrival of my new credit card to buy it

With the help of this forum I've been able to configure GameEx exactly the way I wanted: the frontend now is blazing fast, the transition effects between menus are smooth and the video previews play instantly... however there are still three things that hinders my "cabinet experience", and I hope you can help me with these 1) The first thing is the least important: when I launch a mame game, I can see GameEx minimizing (I mean the windows anymation for minimizing windows, the window shrinking to the taskbar) - This is *not* the same problem others on the forum have, as everything works: mame launches, the game plays fine, I play the game fine (eh eh ) and when exiting mame GameEx maximizes and everything is ok I just want to get rid of that minimizing animation, it's really a kick for the "cabinet feeling" 2) When I start a game, the control panel is displayed together with the "game launching" information at the bottom of the screen: I noticed that it takes a lot more time (4/5 secs more) for the mame "loading" "initializing" etc messages to be shown when the control panel is displayed that way... How can I disable this thing? I found an option to disable the control panel viewer, but this also removes the option to show it from the game information screen... :'( I want it to be available in the game informations screen, together with flyer, marquee etc, but *not* to be automatically shown when launching a game. 3) And for last, the most annoying: when I exit a mame game, the screen remains black for 5/7 seconds before showing gameex again.... I know it could be faster than that, as everything else is blazing fast (and I mean FAST: no delay in anything else in the frontend, this is really the only slow thing), so it must be something wrong with my settings. With the frontend I used before the return from mame->frontend was istantaneous (you press esc - blam- you see the frontend)... I really can't understand why the same thing in gameex takes 6 secs Please: I can live with [1] and [2], but I beg you help me with [3] :'( My system specs: Pentium 4 Core Solo 2,8Ghz 768MB DDR2 266MHz nVidia 6600GT 120MB VRam Freshly formatted 80GB drive ;)

Thank you both I found what was wrong: I disabled DVD player, but the option for "DVD playing from the hd" was still enabled. Now the DVD menu it's not in my homescreen anymore As for the top10, I'll post a feature request Thanks

Hello everyone I'm testing GameEx to see if it's the right frontend for my cabinet: for now I really like it, it seems the best feature wise, but I find it really hard to configure There are so many options it's easy to get lost and don't find what you're looking for However, here's what I'm trying to do: I want to create a 3 level menu layout like this All games Favorites Never played Multiplayer Top 10 [empty line] Update list Shutdown (well... three level beause each of these calls the corresponding game list, and each game it's details ) For now I pretty much removed from the home screen every option I didn't want there, but I can't find how to get rid of the "radio" and "dvd" options (and I disabled dvd player during configuration O_o)... I know that I can disable the home screen, or switch to gamelauncher mode... but that's not what I want, I like the home screen and need it for my 3 level menu so I need to 1) rename "Mame" in the home screen, so that it becomes "all games" 2) remove every other option but the ones listed 3) find a way to add the top10 Can someone help me with the settings? thanks
