Version 2.76 Released

- Fixed bug not allowing to exit back to GameEx when running Mame

Sorry about this, this was an introduced bug in the previous release!

HK,

Guessing this is a configuration issue on my end. Most of the time if I have the LCD plugin running I can't pull up the CP Wizard menu from within a MAME game. Sometimes it will come up, but the majority of the time it won't. I've not been able to figure out any sort of pattern. I've tried it with both speech enabled and disabled. I've tried different settings in CP Wizard. Any idea what may be the cause? I consistantly get the speech component (player 1 button 1, etc.) but not the CP Wizard.

Many thanks

What version of CPWizard are you running? Make sure you running the latest (1.80). If your still having the same problem with 1.80 then can you post your CPWizard.ini.

I am at work now, won't be able to post my .ini when I get home tonight. One thing to add though, if I have the LCD plugin disabled then CP Wizard works every time. If LCD enabled it works only some of the time. I'll test this evening, but think the pattern is that CP Wizard works for the first game used after a reboot.

Here is my .ini file. I rebooted when I got home and even the first game that I loaded (Street Fighter 2 CE) didn't have the CP Wizard menu load up. I then disabled the LED plugin and the CP Wizard menu hows up like it should. Crazy stuff. Thanks for taking the time to look into this HK.

I'm assuming your running the latest version of CPWizard but even so can you change UseOverlay=True to UseOverlay=False in your CPWizard.ini.

Can you please turn on Verbose Logging in CPWizard, then post your CPWizard.log file.

Had a bit of a busy week, hadn't had a chance to get to the testing until today. I set the overlay to false as you indicated. Exited CP Wizard, delted the old log, started CP Wizard, then GameEx. This time when I pulled up a game the CP Wizard menu came up, but it was ignoring my joystick commnds. I pulled out my keyboard and Al-tabbed. There were two CP Wizard forms in the list preview and layout. Preview had focus. When I tabbed over to layout then the controls worked properly. I exited out of CP Wizard, unpaused and waiting a few seconds, then paused again. This time CP Wizard wouldn't come up. Here is the log with Verbose set to true. Thanks again!

Have you setup an emulator profile for Mame? You don't need to setup one for Mame because it's managed internally and would definately cause problems. Emulator profiles are used for emulators other than Mame. So first thing to try is deleting that (Edit->Options->Profiles->Select "mame" from the list then press the Delete button)

Worked like a charm! Thanks

HK,

This is a great plugin!

One question... In alternating two player games, The buttons light up for P1, and P2 controls. Is there a setting that I missed to change this so that only the P1 controls light up? Or is there another solution?

Well Jeez Tempest I don't know... I know you read the whole thread twice, including one reading of the old thread that apparently was defunct before you even started reading it, but would it really hurt you too read the whole damn thing again? I realize your memory is bad, but really, don't you think we have better things to do? I also know that you tried Googling "alternating players site:gameex.info", and all you found was this thread:

http://www.gameex.info/forums/index.php?sh...amp;#entry34846

But do you really think you tried hard enough? We can't babysit you all the time, because we have other people who need babysitting, so learn to take care of your self!

Wow! why don't you come down off of your ivory tower dude? :lol:

Sorry I was meaning to get back to this thread was just a little busy with stuff, so no need to talk to yourself (just yet anyway) ;)

Hmm I don't think I take into account alternating games like that, mainly because alternating games still let you use both controls AFAIK. But you can edit profiles for games to turn off certain buttons on a game by game basis if you like (take a look at the "Profile Editor" tab in the plugin's config)

HK,

I checked, and the second player controls do not work in alternating 2 player games.

In controls.xml, the entry for Tempest looks like this:

 <game romname="tempest" gamename="Tempest (rev 3)" numPlayers="2" alternating="1" mirrored="1" usesService="0" tilt="1" cocktail="1">
<miscDetails>
Super Zapper kills all enemies. Three Zaps per level.
</miscDetails>
<player number="1" numButtons="2">
<controls>
<control name="Spinner">
<constant name="dial"/>
</control>
</controls>
<labels>
<label name="P1_BUTTON1" value="Fire"/>
<label name="P1_BUTTON2" value="Super Zapper"/>
<label name="P1_DIAL" value="Left"/>
<label name="P1_DIAL_EXT" value="Right"/>
</labels>
</player>
</game>

I also checked Galaga, Missile Command, and a couple of others that I can't remember... :blink:

It's not a big deal to me, I will probably use Bkenobi's Mame Loader, and have a seperate .ini for two player alternating games, because I like the idea that two people could stand at the machine. (not having to move out of each other's way)

However, I think it should be added to your to-do list, because it is confusing to see the two player controls light up when they aren't used. You've probably been sleeping too much lately anyway. :P

 Begin ass-kissing:

I took the plunge, and donated on the CPWizard page. I donated twice what I would consider my normal amount, because I really think that my cab would not be the same without CPWizard, and LCD/LED wiz, so I donated for each program. Besides, someday I am still planning on adding a monitor to my marquee, and I will need more help... ;)

/end ass-kissing

If you add me to your list of donaters on the website, just show me as "Tempest"

Thanks,

Matt

Hey thanks for the donation mate, it's always appreciated :)

I could have sworn alternating games allowed you to use player 2 controls, maybe it's a Mame setting or something? Anyway if I can have that verified by someone else and that it applies to all alternating games then I will fix that in CPWizard and the plugin, it's not a hard thing to fix and player 2 labels should not be showing if the buttons arn't being used.

With the alternating 2 player games, you usually can't use the 2 player controls to control player 2. But alot of the 2 player alternating games have a cocktail mode, when cocktail mode is active then 2 sets of controls are utilized.

It would be nice if mame had a setting to allow player 2 controls to be utilized but then I guess it wouldn't be authentic to the original.

Thanks for verifying that... As I said, I will probably use Bkenobi's Mame Loader, so that I can map my p2 buttons in mame for alternating games. The use of Multimame is also touched upon... (Who talks like that? :P )

HK - Does the LCD/LED Wiz read the information it needs on the fly? If not, then this may need a checkbox to enable it, so that it could be used with or without BK's Mame Loader. (I hope that makes sense.) Also, I think this feature may also be needed in the CPWizard.

Hey Tempest before I fix CPWizard and PlugInLCD to not light the second player controls if it's alternating I need to verify another thing

Right now I am lighting the second control if the controls are mirrored:

if (ControlsDat.Mirrored == 1 && NumPlayers > 1)

So I'm guessing I need to change it to:

if (ControlsDat.Mirrored == 1 && Alternating != 1 && NumPlayers > 1)

Which will mean "if the controls are Mirrored AND the controls are NOT Alternating AND the NumPlayers is greater than 1" then light/show the second controls.

That should be it right? Like I said very simple fix, but I just want to make sure it's right.

Hk,

This scares the hell out of me...Your asking ME if this makes sense?

I found these three examples. There is not an example of "alternating="1" mirrored="0", which makes sense, because you would have to mirror controls on an alternating game.

Your logic:

"Which will mean "if the controls are Mirrored AND the controls are NOT Alternating AND the NumPlayers is greater than 1" then light/show the second controls"

would light both sets of controls for "88 Games", so I believe you are right!

<game romname="phoenix" gamename="Phoenix (Amstar)" numPlayers="2" alternating="1" mirrored="1" usesService="0" tilt="0" cocktail="1">

<game romname="88games" gamename="'88 Games" numPlayers="2" alternating="0" mirrored="1" usesService="0" tilt="0" cocktail="1">

<game romname="curvebal" gamename="Curve Ball" numPlayers="2" alternating="0" mirrored="0" usesService="0" tilt="0" cocktail="0">

Also, when I got to the Mame Gamelist, and then use the "back" button to return to the start page, the buttons for the last game I was on in the game list remain lit. I double-checked everything, and I don't think it's a mistake on my part.

I've just uploaded a new version can you test it?

Have you got a default profile setup for "GameEx"? You should definately have one that has the buttons you want when a game is not being lit. If not perhaps GameEx isn't triggering an even when using the "back" button?

One last thing... (hopefully)

When scrolling through the "most played", and "favorites" lists, the buttons light up correctly, but when scrolling through the "last played", they do not. I think I remember reading that this was a problem with the way Gameex does something, but I wanted to mention it.

Yes, I do have a Default Profile for Gameex... I will try the "home" button, annd see if that is different.

I will download the new version, and post again.

These lighted buttons are the shiznit!

The issues you raise are possibly with GameEx. A plugin responds to events sent from GameEx. If the event is not received then nothing will happen in the plugin. Generally these problems are easily solved in GameEx, so if there is a problem then it will be worth posting in the feature request thread.

So Tom will need to know "scrolling through the Last Played list does not trigger the Event_GameSelect event and selecting the back button to return to the Start page does not trigger the Event_MenuChange event".

HK,

I downloaded from the first post in this thread, and nothing has changed. I extracted to Gameex\plugins...

I checked in the plugin manager, and it still indicates V2.66, as does the bottom of the Configuration window...

Do I need to do something different?

I just tried downloading it and it says 2.77 here. You must have extracted to the wrong folder or something?

EDIT: The files were in folder called PlugInLCD so you needed to extract those into the PLUGINS folder. I'm uploading a new one that won't be in another folder (less confusing).
