Ok... So I opened my CP and figured out the one problem with Button 7, the red LED was unplugged from the LEDWiz. I am still having a problem with Player 2 Button 1, it starts out ok and then the red LED goes out. I reinserted the connect on the LEDWiz and that did not help so it either has to be the RGB itself or something is up with the LEDWiz.

Pain in my ass.

Now that you have it opened up, wire one of the leds that you know works to the port on the LedWiz that you are having problems with. If it lights, then it's not the LedWiz.

Conversely, If you wire the led that doesn't work, to a port on the LedWiz that is known to work, and it still doesn't light, then you know it's the Led.

Yeah that is what I am going to do today, sucks I have to trouble shoot something that is brand new. =[

I did some more testing and I don't think it is the LEDWiz however this is a strange problem that only seems to happen when all 3 RGBs are lite.

Red is was on ID3 7 and I moved it to 8. Red stays on just fine when I only have 8 lite but as soon as I start to light the other RGBs on that RGB Board, the red goes out. It takes a couple seconds for it to happen but it does. This is the same thing that happened when I had red on 7. If I just turn the red RGB on, it will stay on no problem but as soon as I light the other two RGBs on that little board, it goes out. I guess the only real last test for me to do would be to move all three of those to another section that I know works and test it.

Well I moved it to another known working section and it does the same thing so it has to be a bad RGB Board. Funny that it only flakes out when I have all thre RGBs lite on it.

How is your LEDWiz being powered? From USB or 12V from the PC power supply? USB is not recommended in most cases as it doesn't have enough power.

Everything in the CP is being powered by USB, 8 USB cords to be exact.

1 IPAC4

2 U360s

1 Trackball

1 Spinner

3 LEDWiz

I did not build the CP but it all seems to work ok otherwise. Like I said, at this point I am 90% sure it is the bad RGB board because when the red goes out and I switch off the blue and green, the red does come back on but sometimes it even flickers a little before it fully comes back up. I verified the ports on the LEDWiz moving all three RGBs to a known working section on the board and the same thing happens... I can't see what else it could be at this point and even though it sucks that it is not working, this seems to be the easiest to fix.

This is from GGG site.

"Note: These modules are intended for use at 5v DC and consume 20ma per color for a total of 60ma when all 3 colors are at full intensity."

That is on the RBGs.

This is on the boards.

"USB port communication and power.

Up to 16 LED-Wiz boards per system.

32 uniquely controllable outputs and up to about 500 Hi-Output LEDs per board (15+ per output, external power source required for this type of operation)

48 levels of PWM intensity. Using RGB LEDs (common anode), theoretically 110,592 colors are possible.

Each individual output can be set to one of the following hardware modes. These modes are set by the computer, and after that the hardware handles them by itself.

Intensity

Sawtooth (gradual up and gradual down)

SquareWave (blink)

SawDown (full on, gradual down)

SawUp (gradual up, full on)

Hardware pulse rates are controlled by a 7-level global speed setting.

Includes mounting hardware, printed instruction sheet and 6' USB cable."

I don't even see a mention of AC power or an option for that matter. Do you have yours wired AC?

You get the 5v (Red, Black I think) directly from the computers power supply, and pull the jumper out of the LEDWiz. It shows details in the instructions.

Not sure what you are trying to say here? Are you trying to tell me my CP is setup incorrectly?

The only thing I know about the problem that I am still dealing with is if the red is lite up by itself it is fine. I can leave it on all day with just red LED lite but as soon as I turn on blue, it cuts out. Even green and red stay on ok, I narrow it down. The problem happens when the red and blue LED are on at the same time. I am watching it now, the red will come on, then it will cut out. It's fairly random the time that the red LED comes on and stays on with the blue. It's more off than on, thats for sure.

Well I guess we will see once I get the new board, I don't think there is anything left to try at this point. I think I got my bases covered...

I have a 2 player setup with 6 buttons per player, plus a 4 way with 2 buttons, plus a spinner with 2 buttons. Is there a cheaper way to have all these buttons light up in the correct color for each game than 2 $45 LED-WIZs? I think it would be really cool, but the wife isn't going to like be spending another $200 on the control panel.

A quote from Randy from here. I'm pretty sure the instructions state this as well.

I don't think USB power will suffice here. 10 RGB's all on at once (white light) will consume 600ma, which is 100ma more than what is specified for USB and doesn't take into account the power required by the LED-Wiz itself or any other device which may be attached.

For my LEDWiz Makeover I used 12V power from the power supply. I suggest you do the same.

Well I can talk to Scott at Mameroom about this but like I said, everything is working correctly other than one RGB so I can't see how this is a power issue. It seems to me if it was a power issue it would shut off more than just one RGB don't ya think? Also... I have two other LEDWiz boards in this thing that are supplying power just fine to just as many LEDs. Also when I moved the one RGB to test to another spot on the LEDWiz I left one of the other LED buttons unplugged, same issue, different spot, one less RGB.

I did not build this control panel Scott did but I am sure I am not the first one he has built.

I know he built this one as well and it has more LEDs than mine. I'm doubtful it is built any different.

You maybe right about the power issue but from what I have seen so far, I find it doubtful.

Version 2.86 Released

- Now supports analog input controls

If you use analog inputs in Mame then inside the PlugInLCD configuration set them up using the digital codes and it should map them correctly.

Again I haven't had much time to do any testing so please give me feedback.

Now that I have figured out that it's the LCD/LED Plugin in that has this feature, my problem is that when I pause MAME it used to announce the button assignments like this: Girl: "Player One, Button One" Guy: "Jump"

Now it doesn't do that anymore. Everything else works.

Any ideas as to why it stopped working, or what I can do to diagnose the problem?

There are a few reasons why it may have stopped working. The first thing you should do is run the GameEx Plugin Manager and then make sure the PlugInLCD plugin is turned on (tick next to it) then hilight it and select Configure. Check your settings, and that the voice is working. Check your Mame paths in there also.

I checked all the obvious things. It's checked in the plugin manager and MAME paths are set correctly. Everything works except the announcment of the button names. It lights up only those buttons that the game uses just fine, and the attract mode animations work too. It also announces the game name on launch and plays the sounds I have set up to when attract mode is started and exited. I thought that it might be conflicting with CPWizard, because both are initiated when MAME is paused, but this happens even if CPWizard is not running. Like I said, it used to work, so maybe it's something in a recent GameEx update that's causing the problem. Any further ideas?

headkaze (and all): Ratting myself out to begin, I'm new to Gameex, my LED-Wiz, and posting. So, I apologize in advance if I'm asking the wrong folks.

That said, I recently built my first cab and it works great with Gamex - except for the LED Plug-in. When I configure the LED Plug-in to "on," the LED's on my control panel work great. But when I "escape" out of a game, Gameex crashes to the Windows desktop and will not restart. Further, my desktop acts kinda glitchy as if the windows are being interrupted by something, and I have to re-boot.

Has anyone else experienced a similar issue?

Thanks!

I'm searching the different values that i can put in events for speech

I know that <Emuname> <Menuname> & <Gamename> works fine

In fact i"m searching a way for the gameinfo to be spoken (the little description of the game) i've tried <GameInfo> as value but it doesn't seems to be recognized by the plugin

then reload gameex and damm the crap is turned back on and all my mapping for my buttons have been wiped!

im going out of my bloody mind! WTF is going on!!!!

oh im using pac led.

you know in the screen shot of inside the setting of the led plugin on the mapping part? will on the screen shot down the bottom of the screen it has a save button and cancel! mine does not have that option! i just dont know why?

I assume you mean this page of HK's Plugin LCD site. I see buttons to "Save" and "Exit." I will take a leap and assume once again that you meant Exit instead of Cancel.

Again, please provide us with your log files and any configuration files related to the plugin. I am not familiar with it, however, we need to start somewhere to troubleshoot your issue.

Thanks!
