The info is on the net (I've read bits here and there), but there is no database designed for GameEx containing console info.

:P I would!

I think this was discussed a little as Starbuck mentioned, however I can't find the thread. It would be great to have something similar when you choose a MAME game in GameEx, where you can view pics of console, controllers, ads, ect. and have some text history.

I think before i start making something we need Tom to agree on using it, so i dont waste my time.

Well since its a small db...I don't see it really as a waste of time creating it.

Also with it done it gives Tom the ability to toy with it and see if he can make it work seamlessly with GX...where if he makes an agreement it rather forces him into doing something with it...even if its an ugly hack.

There is a ton of stuff in the Game db's thats not being used and may never be used...but its there with the hope that maybe some day it will be used.

Once I get my plate cleared off a bit I'll be jumping in on the Game db's ether to help finish off what LB11 is working on currently or to start adding more info into the db's.

hehe some times you got to build it before they come.

If you got the time to do it, then by all means please do...if your stretched for time then hold off...ether the time will come...or someone else will take up the project.

Good to hear I look forward to seeing it. :)

i think for a start im going to have in the database

manufacturer

catergory - handheld - console - etc

year released

how many players

and a basic Spec for the console

Thinking of this gives me an idea emulators could be split into categories from information in the database, eg filter sega consoles or something similar

I was going to do something like this for CPWizard which is launchable from GameEx. It was going to be a list of systems and maybe a picture and a small bio. I never thought of adding controller info and pictures but I guess that would be cool if someone has the time to gather all the data and images together. I think it would be cool to have circuit board images of internals and hacks/mods etc. I guess this could get as big as you wanted ;)

Anyway when I was scraping AllGame I scraped all the Bio data they had into an xml file. Your free to use it for your database.

Ok i have 42 systems in a database. With when they were released etc

But i dont have enough room to put the console Spec in due to access limits

not sure whats the best way to go now

Are you using a "text box" or a "memo box"? The text box can only hold up to 256 characters. The memo can hold pretty much unlimited info.

I'm interested just haven't been following the thread as of late is all.

Now I do have a bit of a question...on players are you actually counting ports on the system...or whats actually the max system allowed?

The reason for the question is that I seen in the db for TG-16 only one player listed...while its true there is only one port on the console...that I recall anyways...there was an expansion that allowed up to four players...tho I don't recall any four player games...but nearly all of the games supported two player.

This gets compounded when dealing with the 3DO...which has one port typically, but controllers can be daisy chained to support 6 or 8 players...tho I'm having a tough time recalling any four player games on the system.
