When you say "minimizing for no reason" do you mean when you cab boots up? Or just randomly while your running GameEx?

If it's when you boot up:

Try uninstalling your video drivers and video control panel and installing the basic video driver instead. Not sure if there is a separate download for the NVidia driver though. I know the Catalyst driver has the control panel as an option.

Try right clicking on the taskbar and clicking properties then unticking "Keep the taskbar on top of other windows". At least that helped some graphic issues I was having.

Maybe also try Start-Run->msconfig. Under the startup tab and uncheck any programs you don't absolutely need at startup.

If on the other hand it's just minimizing randomly while in operation. Check your cab's wiring. Do you have ALT assigned to a key on your CP? All it takes is an ALT-Tab to minimize or ALT-SPACE then N minimizes the current window. Check your key assigments including SHIFT keys in WinIPAC.

I guess there could be other programs running the background that steal focus. Check what is running in Task Manager and kill each task to see if one of them is causing the problem.

Try setting the option to run GameEx at the desktop resolution.

Just some random ideas to try.

i did try killing all tasks and that didnt work,

and i have tried all resolution related configs,

i suppose it might be the taskbar i havnt tried that yet,

it does seem to be quite random and also on every startup,,

sometimes it works for a few minutes and then it suddenly minimises it gets very annoying

but it doesnt affect any games when i'm playing them,,

thanx for your help m8

any idea's much apreciated

I was having a very similar problem (my post was entitled: Error Log When Exiting A Video). My minimization problem had to do with video settings/software. Nothing I did to GameEx seem to help. I eventually updated windows, codecs, players, drivers, anything to do with audio or video. I think the fix was when I updated some Nero software or the Widows updates (happened at the same time). Cleaning up my codecs helped but did not remove the problem. Sorry I can't give you an easy fix. Hope this helps.

You know, I just had this start and I think the only thing I did was switch to the Blue Snap theme. I don't have any videos loading, but I think there might be some kind of codec initialization or something causing this. I'll try switching to a non snap theme and see if that fixes it.

Thats a good point about codecs. DivX and XVid seem to be the likely culprits but only when you have the official codecs installed. There are registry entries which can prevent the player from minimizing. I have one patch on the official GameEx website called "GameEx DivX Tray Icon Fix" under wrappers and utils.

I checked my cab and I don't see any codec packs installed. I'm definitely getting minimizing pretty regularly now, so I'll have to see what's starting by default.

EDIT: I just checked the msconfig util and found that I had several nvidia utils loading including the tray stuff. I disabled it and will see if that helps.

I just dealt with this problem on my friend's cab. First thing I looked at was the startup items in msconfig, basically disabled everything and problem fixed. I run a very lean xp install on my cab so it has never been an issue.

Divx causes all kinds of problems, always been very happy with xvid.

I dissabled everything in there and it's still minimizing. Funny thing is that it hasn't been a problem until just recently. I'm guessing it has to do with my script that turns on the TV once GameEx is started up. I'll probably just have to add a line in there to maximize GameEx rather than switching to it.

Just wanted to report back that as I suspected, the new changes to my startup script to turn the TV on at the right time was stealing focus. I reverted back to an older version of my script and everything is fine.

i fixed it

all it seemed to be is avg antivirus not updated,

ive just got the net back on

I just wanted to add my $0.02 to this thread in case anyone else was searching for the same thing.

I was experiencing problems with GameEx minimizing any time I would either manually launch a video or a video was played in the screensaver / attract rotation. By the time GameEx minimized and brought the Windows desktop back, whatever *may* have been stealing focus (if, in fact, this is what what happening) in the task bar tray was closed.

A couple of tips in the forums here lead me to believe it was probably DivX.

I uninstalled everything DivX, and this minimizing issue has gone away. Xvid and FFMpeg are all you need. Also... depending on the codec used for certain videos, some of them will actually cause GameEx to generate a run-time error and close.
