  2. I just wanted to add my $0.02 to this thread in case anyone else was searching for the same thing. I was experiencing problems with GameEx minimizing any time I would either manually launch a video or a video was played in the screensaver / attract rotation. By the time GameEx minimized and brought the Windows desktop back, whatever *may* have been stealing focus (if, in fact, this is what what happening) in the task bar tray was closed. A couple of tips in the forums here lead me to believe it was probably DivX. I uninstalled everything DivX, and this minimizing issue has gone away. Xvid and FFMpeg are all you need. Also... depending on the codec used for certain videos, some of them will actually cause GameEx to generate a run-time error and close. search keywords: minimizing minimize codec taskbar tray focus videos movies moron idiot noob
  3. A 6 minute bug-fix! Woot! Thanks Tom. Now if I could just get the author of that joystick app to recognize that bug-reports are not a personal attack, everything would be groovy.
  4. Okay. No responses. Should I change the title to "bug found" ? bump.
  5. I'm not one to install every latest point release for software or keep up on every little detail of every release. Once I find something that works well, I leave it alone and GameEx is, by and large, trouble-free. I'm curious however, if this one particular GameEx bug got fixed. Before each Mame game is launched in GameEx, I shell an executable that downloads a joystick configuration file to my 360's. The configuration files are named after the ROM name so it makes sense that my configuration uses the GameEx placeholder [ROM] in the path. While using the system, this works flawlessly (I'm really very happy with it). However, when the PC is in screensaver mode, it doesn't pass the rom name, rather it passes the game description or title. Due to an unrelated bug in this joystick executable that won't ignore a non-existent configuration file, the system blows up when this happens. I can confirm however, that GameEx is, in fact, passing the Description and not the rom name. Did this bug get fixed? I'm using 7.71. runitgame.bat C:\PROGRA~1\ULTRAMAP\ULTRAMAP.EXE D:\RESOURCE\ULTRAMAPS\Cyberball 2072 (2 player, rev 1).UGC should be: C:\PROGRA~1\ULTRAMAP\ULTRAMAP.EXE D:\RESOURCE\ULTRAMAPS\CYBERB21.UGC
  6. Fixed my own problem. Digital joys won't be recognized unless you set mouse to 1. Then, in #AUTOMATIC DEVICE SELECTION OPTIONS, set your mouse-type controls to mouse. In my case it was paddle_device, dial_device, and trackball_device. None of these should interfere with the joystick games and visa versa
  7. Sorry guys. Normally I'm quite able to find solutions to my problems in a variety of places. However, I find myself (for the last umpteen hours) looking and looking and looking with no results. I'm having trouble getting Mame (via GameEx) to recognize the appropriate control for the appropriate game. Here's a small section of my mame.ini # # INPUT DEVICE OPTIONS # # ctrlr <NULL> (not set) mouse 0 joystick 0 lightgun 0 dual_lightgun 0 offscreen_reload 0 steadykey 0 a2d_deadzone 0.3 digital none # # AUTOMATIC DEVICE SELECTION OPTIONS # paddle_device keyboard adstick_device joystick pedal_device keyboard dial_device mouse trackball_device mouse lightgun_device keyboard Now, my understanding is that Mame should recognize that the games which require a trackball, will use the mouse and games that require a joystick, will use my joystick. However, some trackball games don't even recognize the trackball. Almost all of the joystick games won't recognize the joystick. I'm aware of the plugin for the Ultrasticks, but the joystick isn't being recognized at all in the games that require it. In addition, I'm not too keen on completely rearranging my file system to suit the plugin. Shouldn't "adstick_device" essentially set the -joystick switch to 1 and launch the game with joystick support? Honestly, I'm not sure if this is a GameEx or a Mame issue. I've spent months and months making sawdust and I'm getting frustrated with the FE and my ability to "just play games". If it's one of those RTFM issues. Would you mind pointing me in the right direction. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks 'gents.
  8. Was there a resolution to this issue?
