Would it be possible to examine the Moby cat info can compare it to AllGame's and see if there is a distinct pattern of how they relate to one another...I'm just thinking that if its possible...and if the results appear to be constant...maybe we can fill out the rest of the db's based off Moby data.

Just thinking maybe an hour or two of your genius may save LB11 a lot of time...if its possible.

I had looked into this at the start but the only common rules I could find were the same as LB11 has mentioned and I found it was easier to just sort the MDB by Category and then by Non Sport and copy and paste the relevent category in, there were to many factors to conisder for nailing any more than that so I didn't see any point in writing anything for it

Yup, that one needed quite a bit of attention. I asked Stu to mod his tool so we can import all the work I already did strait from the csv file. That way I wont be searching for the same games for every system.

Added Commodore64

Stu: Here is the csv file if you needed to see how it is set up.

Good work, I'll hopefully get a chance to look at this later on today for you

Hello all

Can't wait to see the new db. But have some questions.

When I check the box with the current database in the wizard, I asssume that GameEx will look in your roms file and correct the name to the one in the database and display that in GameEx. I find that it doesn't always do this. Is this because the game is not in the database. And is this not the same thing that a map file does. I assume that the database will also display other things like it does in Mame. But, where does that information show up.

Is you check both map files and databses, does one override the other.

In several other front ends that I beta tested, when you used the databases it displayed all the games in the database in the list and change the color for the games you didn't have. This would be a neat feature for GameEx and would make good use of the databases.

Is someone going to maintain these databases and allow other users to send in updated information. Lots of GameEx users could update various things and upload to the website to be included in the databases.

Long term, could the databses also contain the screenshots etc in the databases. I feel that this would be a excellent feature. GameEx could have a feature that when clicked would go in and update the databases, screenshots or both. Similar to what Offline lists does now.

The name in the database has to pretty much exactly match the name of the rom so this is one of the problems with the current databases as the names for allot of games, that exist in the database, are not the same as the name in the various GoodTools... These new sets as well as containing a hell of a lot more games have also been matched as best as possible to the current GoodTools names so allot more games should display info, the game display info on the page after you select a game from your games list before launch, I think this is an optional screen that has to be turned on, the database is also used to sort by year , category and manufacturer from the side menu.

Thanks Stu

Does access have to be install on your computer to read these databases into GameEx or does GameEx have the ability to read them on its own. Also if you have both map files and databases, does one override the other. I assume I can go into the databases and use the database rom name and rename my roms to the name in the database for systems that don't have Goodtools files. I have a number of roms that Goodtools classfies as unknown. Can I edit my personal copies of these databases to add these.

Is there any hope of the databases including snaps, manuels boxart, etc. in the future. May be able to acess the pics in the dat files of Offline tools. Have tried to use these in Gameex, but that function doesn't seem to work.

Is there available an empty database available so that I and others might start working on other systems that aren't quite as common. Some I'd like to see are flash games, Frets on fire etc. As well as other game systems.

Thanks Stu!

Starbuck: Like he said, if you are using the original databases that came with gameex then there is lots of stuff missing and it went by game name. Not rom name. The version 2 databases added the goodnames I believe. And these will add better catagory sorting.

If you use the original databases, there is a good chance the games not in there.
