can i update gamex without launching gameex?

i have a mame cab machine in the living room with no internet access.. i need to take the hard drive out of that computer, hook it up to my comptuer with internet to update gameex.. ok thats fine.. but only problem is gameex will not launch when i put the hard drive in my work computer... who knows why but it crashes. i can access all the gameex files so i was wondering if i can manually update it somehow without launching gameex

Well, you can just download the latest installer from the website, and save it on a USB stick for example. Then pop it in your mame cab pc, and run it.

I know the installer has options for downloading themes and stuff online, but I'll admit I haven't tried installing GameEx without internet access. So I don't know if it's required.

There are some command line options that can be used to do this kind of thing (e.g., you can update your game list without having to open GameEx and navigate to the correct location). I don't know if Tom added CLI support for updating GameEx though. That could be useful. However, I suspect that it is not available since the other CLI options still launch GameEx before they do their thing. Since update is the first thing it asks about, there probably wouldn't be much of a reason to have it in there.
