Hey guys!

What version of MAME are you guys using?

I've downloaded the latest version but is seems to have messed up my sound. Simple, small games like Frogger and Donkey Kong that were once working great now stutter...

I saw on the What's In Your Cab thread that some of you are using .106... would this be considered the best version?

Also, is it the consensus here to use different emulators for specific games (ZINC for Street Fighter 2 EX, Nebula, Raine...)?

I guess it's just the purist coming out in me as I'd like to run all Arcade Games from MAME... but should I just get over this and use different emulators?

What's your take?

I use mame 117 (primarly)

With that said you can try going into the advanced config and advanced mame settings (in gameex) and remove the -tripplebuffering and add -video ddraw

this should fix you up!

with that said I use mame 106 to play the killerinstinct roms as they play really good on this and past builds..

In short NO.

BUT you can setup these other versions of mame as emulators... Thats what I do

I'm running mame v0.106, and the only cause for that is, that it is the latest mame build I've found to support saved highscores, which I can't live without. :)

I'm considering setting up an additional MAME emulator, which I'll continually update to the latest version and on that have roms from version 0.106 and up.

The latest MAME builds has this cool new function that lets users with a monitor that can't handle 60 fps games run them either faster or slower. This will affect the pitch of the sound for that game, but at least you won't get the stutter. By default however, this is set to off

Oh wait, hold the phone, there's a new build out now that has a command line function that automatically sets the best game speed for your screen:

From http://www.mamedev.com :

MAME 0.118u5

"There is also as promised a new parameter -refreshspeed which automatically adjusts the -speed of gameplay to keep it under your monitorâ??s refresh rate."

I too miss the highscore support, but I think that you can use the gamestate saving for this.

Is it only killer instinct roms that run really well, or is the 1.06 and lower a little faster in general? I thought thats what I read in a post here recently. Something to do with the way mame handles video now or something?

It's mainly used for CHD based games.

Your new shiny mame 118 works just fine with all roms.. Just chd are slower in newer builds

I currently use Mame32FX because it still supports highscores. Current version is 118u5.

You just made my day jombee. I don't know how Mame32FX could have slipped under my radar. :)
